Boyd Corporation Quality Assurance Manager in Thermal - Niagara, New York

SUMMARY

The Quality Assurance Manager develops, implements, and manages quality control systems to ensure continuous production and consistency with established standards. Champion environmental standards with regulatory agencies and AS9100 standards/audits. The position supervises a team of quality control inspectors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement and maintain procedures to ensure a high level of internal quality assurance standards of heat exchanger units.

  • Provide quality assurance expertise in the areas of tooling, prints, specifications, product maintenance, raw materials, and vended products throughout the production process.

  • Promote quality achievement and performance improvement with quality training programs.

  • Formulate, document and monitor our performance to AS9100 Standards through periodic audit scheduling.

  • Lead Site in preparation for AS9100 Annual Audit and work with Audit Team during annual audit.

  • Develop and maintain system to ensure that the most current documents are distributed to the floor, training completed, and records maintained.

  • Maintain awareness of business goals and company profitability, including budgetary control issues.

  • Assess product specifications of the company and its suppliers to certify compliance to Customer specifications.

  • Collaborate with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements for external suppliers and continuous compliance.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce clearly defined quality policies and procedures.

  • Analyze quality performance data (COPQ) and develop plans to address gaps, improve, and communicate to employees.

  • Partner with Customers to ensure the execution of corrective action and compliance with Customers’ quality specifications.

  • Monitor quality performance through data collection to produce and present statistical reports.

  • Maintain an active role in product design from inception to execution.

  • Recommend methods, materials, staffing, and layouts for improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.

  • Participate in corporate strategic planning and budgetary processes.

  • Promote and participate in problem solving on the floor to ensure irreversible corrective actions are implemented and followed.

  • Manage the application of Environmental, Health, and Safety standards.

  • Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with Customer and Aavid Niagara standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Comprehension of compliance and enforcement of all applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations relating to job duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Quality department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant work experience required.Experience in Aerospace and Defense work preferred.

  • Five (5) years’ experience as quality manager including at least two (2) years of inspection experience required.

  • Technical skills in Engineering Management, Quality Assurance, and costing required.

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing methods preferred.

  • Proficient personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to take a “hands on” approach to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions to prioritize work in a multi-tasked environment.

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills.
