Entergy Utility Operational Technology Application Developer and Support Professional in The Woodlands, Texas

This is a hybrid role requiring 25% or more office presence, and can be based out of New Orleans, LA, The Woodlands, TX, or Little Rock, AR. Those outside of these areas would be required to relocate; relocation assistance is not available for this posting

This position may be filled as either an IT Specialist, Sr or IT Consultant based on education, years of experience, and success at a related role

Job Summary

This role provides support for real time specific applications for the business unit. The primary responsibility is application development, maintenance and support of Entergy’s Power Generation and System Planning Applications. These applications are a mix of Third-Party applications and In House developed applications. Third Party applications includes PCI (PowerCosts Inc) and MV90 (Itron) systems. Custom applications support many business functions for the Power Generations and System Planning organization that track plant information and accounting data for the business units.

Job Duties

  • Create and maintain business relationships. Establishing Subject Matter Expertise in their area of responsibility.

  • Provide operations support, ensuring production systems and devices are online and available; this includes non-business hours on-call support.

  • Provide and maintain real time systems application availability, ensuring that applications are active and operating as defined in service level agreements.

  • Troubleshooting and debugging of custom and vendor applications

  • Support the design, development and testing of real time systems applications and enhancements.

  • Provide an interface with software vendors for discussion, consultation, problem solving and best upgrade practices on the 3rd party application systems.

  • Participate in team 24 hour on-call rotation.

  • Learn and understand power system operations business needs and objectives; recommend and design applications and implement enhancements that meet customer business needs.

  • Provide and maintain real time systems application availability, ensuring that applications are active and operating as defined in service level agreements.

  • Additional Duties as required based on the needs of the business and our customers.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Educational Requirements for the position.

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Computer Science, or related technical degree or Experience Equivalent

Minimum Experience Required for the position.

  • IT Specialist, Sr: 6+ years of relevant technology delivery with Subject Matter Expertise for Operational technology (OT)

  • IT Consultant: 8+ years of relevant technology delivery with Subject Matter Expertise for Operational technology (OT)

  • Desired:

  • Experience providing Operational on call support to customers in difficult situations.

  • Experience in software design lifecycle with emphasis on development, support, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with the operational areas of the company (Nuclear, Power Generation, Power Delivery, System Planning)

  • Experience and strong skills in interfacing with management and the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical senior managers.

  • Experience with control systems security, security architecture, network security engineering or secure network development experience with electric power utilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Position:

  • Very good communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Proficient in most of following languages: C#, VB, VB.Net, MSSQL, Oracle, JavaScript, VBScript.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to support real-time systems in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to support cyber security activities such as, system hardening, patch management, and configuration management.

  • Ability to support multiple Windows environments over a large network and troubleshooting Web-Service’s and Windows Service’s.

  • Knowledge of security controls testing, security audits, and security assessments

  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows and or Unix Operating Systems and correct issues.

  • Ability to perform critical analyzes an issue with other team members and come to the most reasonable and least impactful direction.
