Position Summary:
Plans, supervises, and directs research, investigation, or other technical operations of research efforts within the Center for Health Equity. Provides technical expertise to facilitate the design, implementation, and analysis of procedures, techniques, and results, which enables investigators to conduct research projects. Supports grant writing, reports, presentations and publications related to research projects. Develops partnerships internally and externally for population health and community-engaged research efforts.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Determines feasibility of possible projects to ensure results will have a significant impact. Determines project feasibility in terms of staff, time, and resources.
Plans and performs quantitative and qualitative research procedures in various areas of nutrition, food insecurity, related structural and social determinants of health, population health, or related scientific areas. Identifies the problem through contact and partnership with other researchers, practitioners, or literature searches. Formulates a problem or project to research. Design procedures and protocols related to the research area.
Generates support, engagement, and resources for priority population health research initiatives and policy efforts related to nutrition, food insecurity, and related structural and social determinants of health in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Develop manuals of procedures for research projects, including training protocols for research staff andrecruitment and retention materials for study participants. Submits and obtains IRB approval for research projects. Maintains human subjects research approval status for research projects.
Develops training plans related to research project, conducts hiring and training of research staff for research protocols. Develops quality control procedures for research project as applicable.
Leads and assists with seeking diverse funding opportunities, writing and submission of grant applications for research projects.
Develops data collection, management and analysis plans for research projects. Conducts analysis of data for research projects and/or works closely with research staff to oversee the analysis. Evaluates the data from the analysis.
Develops manuscripts and scientific reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Presents results in a written paper for publication, in a presentation at a meeting, or through personal contact with faculty members and other researchers.
Ensures direct reports follow safety procedures and attends basic safety training courses.
Provides work direction and guidance to personnel within department. May lead projects and activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Prior experience in public health preferred.
Minimum Education:
Doctorate Degree (in nutrition, public health or a related field preferred)
Minimum Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in a related research environment and have verifiable publications within the field of the research project.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
