TAOS PUEBLO ADMINISTRATION Tiwa Language Instructor - Educ. Dept. in Taos, New Mexico

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Implements, coordinates, and teaches the TIWA language and culture and protocols according to the established curriculum and lesson plan approved by Tribal Government. Students may include preschool, k-12m and adults. Develops and implements lesson plans based on approved curriculum. Utilizes various methods of teaching and resources to motivate students in learning TIWA language. Instructs youth and adults in the language of their heritage and with knowledge of traditional customs. Provides language enrichment activities and homework for students to carry out at home with families and tribal members. Practices oral languages skills daily to provide consistency in hearing, repeating words, and phrases. Listens to conversations on TIWA. Assesses monthly lesson plans to improve effectiveness of teaching and resources. Assists and instructs teachers in head start with incorporating TIWA language and customs into classroom. Maintain an accurate inventory record of equipment and supplies. Assists with other educational programs. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic. Knowledge of TIWA language and customs. Skill in analysing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations. Ability to teach in the native language of TIWA. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Skill in teaching language to students. REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree preferred. Two (2) years teaching experience. Tiwa speaking required
