The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

Title of Position:

This Divisionally shared direct patient care position is responsible for providing direct patient clinical care at the various Disease Control Medical Clinics, specifically at the Specialty Care Center, University Area Health Center, and Sulphur Springs Health Complex. This is a professional position within the healthcare setting working specifically with communicable disease and primary care services. The individual working in this position must share and demonstrate the Department of Health-Hillsborough County vision and values on a daily basis. The incumbent must be flexible in the constant changes in the healthcare environment. This position works as a team member to meet and exceed established guidelines for the program and reports directly to the Specialty Care Center’s Health Center Administrator.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • The APRN provides direct patient care in the Disease Control Clinics, that specifically includes HIV/AIDS, STI, TB, PrEP, Test and Treat (TnT), nPEP and Hepatitis programs.

  • Ability to provide telehealth services within the Communicable Disease programs.

  • Follows DOH Bureau of Disease Control and Health Promotion clinical guidelines, in TB, STI and HIV/AIDS sections to include syphilis, other bacterial/viral, or biological agents and expedited partner therapy (EPT) as appropriate.

  • Assists in referral services for linkage to care, and relinkage to care.

  • Assists with maintaining daily medication/pharmacy inventory logs as applicable.

  • Reviews all lab results from patients seen by APRN and assist with other provider lab review as necessary.

  • Must understand the Ryan White Grant funding requirements, including the Ryan White eligibility process, and medical requirements of the program such as current labs, TB testing, documentation of HIV positivity or AIDS status.

  • Serves in the Special Needs Shelter teams in a medical capacity.

  • Provides clinical care and assessments with specific identified public health initiatives, i.e., COVID, Mpox, smallpox, etc.

  • Schedule for services would be rotated amongst the Disease Control clinical sites and will include authorized time off (ATO) coverage for specific providers/programs as necessary.

  • Involvement in clinic meetings, quality review and process improvements as they relate to clinical procedures and Disease Control processes in general.

  • Involvement in community initiatives as they relate to the DOH-Hillsborough Clinical Programs.

  • Completion of all forms including but not limited to Employee Activity Record (EAR), service collection tools and timesheets per guidelines.

  • Knowledge of the Health Management System (HMS), Provide and CAREWare electronic health records.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise with medical records

  • Ability to diagnose and treat communicable diseases.

  • Assists in the development of written protocols (new and established)

  • Ability to work within a team and independently as necessary.

  • Expertise with computers, tablets, office equipment

  • Ability to follow instruction.

  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and MS Teams).

  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.

  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with dependable transportation.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum

  • APRN licensure valid in the State of Florida.

  • 1 year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting as an APRN.

  • 1 year of experience with electronic health records (EHR).

  • Valid Florida driver’s license or able to get one within 30 days of hire.

  • Reliable transportation
