DESCRIPTION:

The Division of Technology and Innovation within the Florida Department of Education is seeking a motivated individual to serve in a full-time position as a System Project Administrator in the Office of School Support (OSS). OSS facilitates K-12 school data collections and reporting for both internal and external clients.

Under the supervision of the Computer Applications Support Manager, this position conducts technical work involving the analysis, development, design and implementation of comprehensive management information systems and/or integrated subsystems within OSS. The employee is expected to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to prepare, provide and disseminate quality products representative of the Department’s commitment to quality, efficient services and practices; to develop computer programs in the authorized language(s) following detailed specifications and departmental standards; prepare test data and perform testing for programs developed or modified to validate accuracy; develop simple job control language routines and modify existing procedures; identify and correct program malfunctions when they occur; participate in the development of procedures for user training and operation of management information systems; participate in input and output forms design; establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with all information technology staff and customers; display a professional attitude when interacting with information technology staff and customers; and possess the ability to acquire technical and subject matter expertise.

We are seeking a skilled individual with 4+ years of experience in analysis, code development and maintenance support of mainframe applications that service the division’s business objectives and requirements. This position requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to effectively multitask. The majority of responsibility will be the development and maintenance of student and funding applications that store and report on K-12 student data written in COBOL, Easytrieve, SQL and IBM JCL with data stored in DB2 databases.

Additionally, the applicant should perform well independently and as a team player. The applicant must be able to develop work products from concept to completion to include assisting in technical writing, analysis, code development, testing, and maintenance. The ideal candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to those who have proven analytical and coding experience in SQL queries, COBOL, Easytrieve and DB2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and two years of experience as described above; or

• A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one year of experience as described above; or

• Four years of experience as described above and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems.

• Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

• Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required experience.

    LEAVE INFORMATION:

    Annual Leave- Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.

    Sick Leave- Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions shall be credited with 104 hours of sick leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of initial appointment.

    BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT:
