Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position requiring skills in the areas of data management and technical abilities related to health analysis and data communication to support various oral health programs and initiatives. This position is located in the Bureau of Family Health Services, Public Health Dental Program and reports to the Program Administrator. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Monitors trends and provides up-to-date written reports and oral presentations related to oral health indicators; prepares graphic, tabular, and written summaries of results of statistical analyses for internal reports, legislative analyses, grant applications, project updates, and professional conferences; fulfills data requests by external and internal partners of the Public Health Dental Program. This work requires the ability to analyze various large state- and county-based datasets such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, dental workforce surveys, and dental service data captured through the Department of Health's Health Management System (HMS) through the use of various software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL, SPSS, and SAS.

Assists with data collection initiatives within the Public Health Dental Program (e.g. Statewide Oral Health Surveillance Projects and Florida's Linked Oral Status System (FLOSS) Database). Activities include but are not limited to: identifying gaps in current data systems and making recommendations as needed, developing and providing training and technical assistance to internal and external participants, establishing protocols to ensure uniform data collection, and contributing to ongoing design and maintenance of the data collection initiatives.

Collaborates with other offices within the Department of Health, such as but not limited to, the Maternal and Child Health Section, Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, Bureau of Epidemiology, and Bureau of Community Health Assessment for joint initiatives. Interface with partners of the Public Health Dental Program which includes other state entities such as the Agency for Health Care Administration, Department of Health County Health Departments, academic institutions, and Federally Qualified Health Centers across the state to monitor performance measures and health outcomes through innovative collaborations with internal and external partners.

Serves as contract manager for assigned agreements, contracts, and purchase orders.

Required Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of epidemiological methods for compiling, organizing, and analyzing large data sets; proficient in using various software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL, SPSS, and SAS; ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures; prioritize work assignments; skilled at interpretation and communication of data.

Qualifications:

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. The incumbent may have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties. Purchasing Card - assigned Purchasing Card responsibilities. Contract Manager - Serves As contract manager as required by section 287.057 (16) and 215.422, Florida Statutes.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or Master's in public health or health related field. Training in Microsoft Excel, SPSS or SAS.
