TheCriminal Investigations Divisionencompasses all law enforcement and forensic components residing within the Department of Financial Services. With this broad responsibility, the division investigates a wide range of fraudulent and criminal acts including:

  • Insurance Fraud Investigations

  • Workers' Compensation Fraud Investigations

  • Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations

    SPECIAL NOTES:

    High School Diploma or its' equivalent isrequired.

    Additional requirements:

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certificate OR five (5) years of professional experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, to include Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability and skills to effectively use this software.

    Preferences:

  • Analyzing bank records.

  • Producing analytical financial reports.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

    This position requires a security background check which includes a financial credit report, and fingerprinting.

    Special consideration may be given to eligible candidates who have bilingual verbal & written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission.

    The starting salary for this position is $62,000.00 annually.

    Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of basic accounting and auditing principles. Knowledge of the methods of compiling and analyzing data. Knowledge of monitoring techniques. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Knowledge of advanced investigative techniques. Knowledge of the rules and evidence. Knowledge of court procedures and requirements.

    Ability to review, analyze and evaluate financial data. Ability to examine and audit financial records. Ability to prepare financial audit reports. Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to conduct research and prepare reports. Ability to probe and obtain critical facts. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to conduct investigations. Ability to prepare exhibits and schedules for presentation in court. Ability to present information in a concise and organized manner. Ability to provide expert testimony in state and federal court.

    BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

    If applicable, (Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.)

  • Conducts financial investigations in insurance fraud, finance, and securities fraud cases.

  • Investigates violations of state fiscal laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Interviews and secures statements from principals, employees, and other witnesses.

  • Performs cash flow analysis, collects, and evaluates documents and other evidence.

  • Prepares final reports on financial investigations, setting forth information and evidence obtained.

  • Testifies at administrative, civil, and criminal court hearings and trials resulting from these investigations.

  • Maintains liaison and performs joint investigations with federal, state, and local law enforcement.

  • Prepares documents, exhibits, schedules, and other pertinent information for use in criminal prosecution of economic fraud cases in a court of law.

  • Assists state attorneys in the prosecution of economic fraud cases.

  • Performs related work as required.
