CORRECTIONAL SERVICES ASSISTANT– 70043841

**INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY ONLY – Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections to be considered for this position.

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located in Tallahassee Fl in the Admission/ Release/ Commitment Unit department.

Salary Range: $38,175.54-$80,910.99 annually

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Audits all commitment documents received pursuant to F. S. 944.17 and independently determines applicability of various case law decisions, statutes, and legal advice in establishing sentence structure; audits on-line entry of sentencing provisions and adjusts sentence data as needed to ensure accuracy of release date calculations.

  • Reviews computer calculation of overall term and independently determines if such calculation follows statute and case law.

  • Manually computes total jail time credit and verifies that automated program is accurate; notifies field staff, as well as the Florida Commission On Offender Review (FCOR), as to changes or adjustments in sentence structure or release dates following completion of each audit

  • Ensures correct sequence chaining on post release supervision violators returned to custody.

  • Establishes audit trail to ensure accountability for adjustments to inmate sentence structure.

  • Implements changes in policy and procedures relating to sentence structure issues.

  • Review and process court orders/amended-corrected paperwork/mitigated sentencings, etc. ensuring adherence to sentencing provisions and instructions of the trial court.

  • Resolve inconsistencies in sentencing provisions and/or documents; resolves any technical or operations problems in sentencing orders to ensure the integrity of the internal release date.

  • Manually calculates tentative release dates to ensure appropriate action has been taken as mandated by the court; remains knowledgeable at all times of Florida statutes and rules of the Department as well as case law decisions affecting sentence structure and/or release date calculations to ensure the Department’s statutory obligations have been met.

  • Assist supervisor with code, load, and process of emergency releases on upfront time served new commitments.

  • Assist in preparing presentations and training of new Admission & Release employees in the audit/administrative incorporation process, as well as training on faxes/deliveries/returns.

  • Reviews and evaluates institutional classification staff inquiries and provides detailed assistance by explaining complex sentence structures and release date calculations to allow classification staff to explain the case structure to the inmate in question.

  • Team leads for project and work assignments as required by needs of the Bureau and Commitment Unit including but not limited to monitoring E-Filing Portal, response to law enforcement inquiries on delivery or return of inmates out to court.

  • Communicates with Judges, Public Defenders, State Attorneys, Sheriff’s Offices, Clerks of the Court, and Federal officials regarding technical or legal discrepancies in commitment documentation, clarifies conflicts in sentencing instructions; establishes a suspense system and independently follows-up to ensure receipt and processing of requested documentation or verifications. Performs in-depth search of inmate information system to detect errors in offender identification and number assignments; identifies commitments which may satisfy existing detainers and coordinates with appropriate section to ensure timely withdrawal of such detainers.

  • Prepares and submits daily status report detailing work productivity and backlog, along with maintaining Sentence Structure tracking database with current assignments/completions.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.

  • Must posess Experience with release date calculations/sentence structure/Florida Statutes and Case Law regarding sentencing.
