About the Role The Vessel Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing and managing vessel operations in Tacoma, WA. Direct responsibilities include working with SSAT, SLC planners, and Fleet Ops to ensure Matson vessels remain on schedule and are being work efficiently. Financial responsibilities include preparing, tracking, managing stevedoring budgets, analyzing performance to budget, determining variance to budget, implementing corrective actions, and controlling labor and material costs. The position is responsible for ensuring Matson's operational standards and processes are maintained and that all regulatory requirements are met at all times. What you'll do: Manage vessel operations in the Pacific Northwest Region. Manage and oversee SSAT and SLC planners to ensure vessels are being worked and stowed per Matson's requirements. Maximize vessel operation efficiencies and productivity to meet or exceed standards. Monitor and control all vessel activities including stowage, repairs, ganging, and standby times. Prepare and distribute vessel projections. Inspect flat cargo with Chief Mates to ensure seaworthiness. Send out hazardous and reefer cargo manifests. Work with Customs and the Department of Agriculture to clear inbound loads. Work with SSAT and customers on hazardous permit loads. Send out final sailing emails and ensure SSAT reporting is accurate and distributed in a timely manner. Prepare vessel PPR's for weekly financial tracking. Work with SSAT to ensure we are discharging an adequate amount of equipment to wheels to support operational needs. Work with Alaska and Hawaii ports to ensure we are receiving the appropriate consist to meet customer demands and operate efficiently. Work with SSAT to reduce or eliminate yard gang costs and operate as efficiently as possible. Ensure that customer stowage requirements are met. Ensure SOP's are up to date and reviewed quarterly for changes. Must be able to understand and administer the IBT and OPEIU CBA and act independently to provide consistent, fair, and impartial disciplinary actions and resolve disputes. Develops standards of best practices for processes. Understands workflow and utilizes company computer systems to ensure accurate information is obtained from and transferred to the databases for efficient equipment maintenance and cost control.
