About the Role: The Special Projects Group of KPFF is growing and looking for an ambitious and initiative-driven Structural Engineer to strengthen our dynamic team in Tacoma, WA. You will be on Ruston Way, with a view of Commencement Bay, in Tacoma, WA working on a diverse range of waterfront and industrial infrastructure projects. As a key member of our team, you'll use your existing expertise in waterfront infrastructure, but also dive deep into the realms of design, project management, and delivering unparalleled client service. - Apply your engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions drawing on best practices in areas such as pile design, bulkhead wall, prestressed concrete, and seismic design for Port developments, marine engineering, ferry and cruise terminals, shipyards, fish & wildlife facilities, marinas, and floating structures.
- Contribute to projects involving waterfront infrastructure and industrial developments, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes in these specialized areas.
- Learn to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
- Gain experience in ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.
- Enhance your skills in identifying and overcoming challenges through innovative problem-solving approaches, utilizing both traditional and modern engineering techniques.
Project Leadership:
- Managing project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.
Client Engagement and Exceptional Service:
- Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions that align with their objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Who We're Looking For:
- Minimum of 10 year of structural design experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with a structural emphasis)
- MS in Civil Engineering preferred (with a structural Emphasis)
- SE required.
- Concrete steel and timber design experience
- Pile design and bulkhead wall experience.
- Prestressed concrete and seismic design experience.
- Knowledge of ASCE 61-14, AASHTO, IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, ACI, and NDS
- Proficiency in SAP2000, L-Pile, MS Excel, and VBA is preferred.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven capability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
