National Grid Summer 2025 Intern Program: Business, Computer Science, Data Analytics (Syracuse in Syracuse, New York

As a Summer Intern (Gridtern Program), you will be fully immersed in the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on May 27, 2025, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, opportunities to get involved in your community and most importantly, have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2025:

Customer Sales Management (Syracuse, NY)

Our Customer Sales Management team works with vendors and contractors who sell and/or install energy efficient (EE) equipment and devices for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in National Grid's electric and gas territories. We inform, educate, and train them on all the EE incentive and rebate programs that National Grid offers to our C&I Customers and contractors. As a Gridtern, you will be working with and assisting our Channel Team in providing data analysis, marketing strategies, event planning, training and education to our contractor and vendor network.

Electric Project Estimating (Syracuse, NY)

Our Electric Estimating Team provides estimates for complex and non-complex electric projects at various stages in their lifecycle, as well as provides forecasting support for complex projects that require additional funding to complete. The team also performs internal data controls, supports enterprise estimating software updates, tracks internal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and supports external departments with all estimating needs. As a Gridtern, you will design reviews on drawings and in the field, perform data cleanup integrity support and play a part in the development and maintenance of estimating tools.

Global Technical Training (Liverpool, NY)

Our Global Technical Training team is responsible for National Grid's gas and electrical training in our US and UK facilities. Our team is transforming how learning is designed and delivered at National Grid with the vision that every employee has an opportunity to achieve their full potential in their learning journey. As a Gridtern, you will contribute to our digital conversion of classroom training to virtual reality and augmented reality, reviewing and testing training materials for assurance, converting multimedia (video, audio), script writing and storyboarding, utilizing PowerPoint for presentations and support video productions.

Meter Data Services (Syracuse, NY)

Our Meter Data Services team collects data from over 7 million Electric and Gas Customers. This data is used for billing customers, daily settlement of the New York/New England ISO, SOX Audits, load research studies and engineering forecasts and analysis. As a Gridtern, you will have the chance to assist the team with several projects such as: Customer System Consolidation, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), ISO Retail Settlement System, Gas Metretek System Upgrade, Storm Hardening Gas Value, and Electric Land-line to IP Meter Replacement.

NY Electric Business Unit Process and Digital (Syracuse, NY)

Our NY Electric Business Unit (EBU) Process and Digital team performs process improvements, oversee a portfolio of digital products, and coordinate and execute strategic communications. As a Gridtern, you will support the team by assisting with documentation and improving business processes. This will include co-facilitating workshops, creating artifacts to drive improvements, and collecting data to evidence improvements over baseline.

Process and Performance - Operations Support NY (Syracuse, NY)

Our Process and Performance team helps to continue to advance NY Operations Support strategic goals by providing high level analysis of data, process mapping, business risk and assurance management and visual interactive tools to improve efficiency, maintain accurate reporting, ensure compliance, and offer strategic solutions to its critical business needs. As a Gridtern, you will work alongside other team members to document current state processes and analyze for waste and improvement opportunities. You will observe other team members' projects and tour various sites that we are working with. Our team also extends the opportunity for you to achieve an accredited Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.

Resource Scheduling & Work Support (Syracuse, NY)

Our Resource Schedule & Work Support team schedules for our Customer Meter Services (CMS) and Gas Field Operations (GFO) LOB. We manage technicians' schedules and are responsible for managing due dates, researching our system for compliance and completion, and creating a dashboard so we can review upcoming dates. As a Gridtern, you will be handling project databases, learning how to help implement MS Lists as well as a Power Bi. You will work with team members to help establish or review for efficiencies.

Revenue Assurance (Syracuse, NY)

Our Revenue Assurance team is a high-quality support services team that strives to identify and resolve all lost and unaccounted revenue through the enhancement of processes and controls. The team utilizes the Revenue Assurance life cycle to minimize leakage with a focus on safety and reliability across the organizational footprint. As a Gridtern, you will work on data analysis, case investigations, dashboard creation, process and documentation updates.

SAP Billing (Syracuse, NY)

Our SAP Team is responsible for invoicing customers for non-utility company work including property damage CIAC final bills, recurring, government reimbursement work, etc. As a Gridtern, you will be part of our project to consolidate internal emails across different bill types. You will help improve communication and provide a way to track response times.

What You'll Need
  • Availability to start on program start date, May 27, 2025, and work full-time (40 hours a week) throughout your duration of the summer
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2025 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, or Master's Degree
  • Majoring in Business, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver's license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$18.00 -$23.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$25.00 - $28.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
