SUNY Upstate Medical University Registered Nurse, Upstate Family Medicine @ Township 5 in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary: Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner or health professional. Works within their full scope of practice and ensures that high quality and safety is consistently delivered. Directly reports to the practices Nurse Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and prepares patient charts prior to patient appointment

  • Performs various duties related to the patient appointment and medical record, such as vital signs, problems, medications, pharmacy and health history

  • Epic EMR proficiency for routine clinical tasks, such as orders, changing providers, making/changing appointments, recording administered injections and use of quick disclosure

  • Enters orders into EMR and obtains insurance authorizations for tests and DME, as indicated in provider notes/orders on patient visit date

  • Able to act as a liaison between patients, providers, office staff and outside contacts. Ensures smooth provider work-flow, solving problems and notifying staff and patients of provider delays

  • Capable of collecting samples from patients, perform routine lab tests and administer medications

  • Cleans and restocks rooms. Notifies Team Leader and/or Nurse Manager of ordering supplies as needed

  • Works closely with Team Leader and/or Nurse Manager and/or secretary staff to address chart/scheduling issues

  • Assists providers with procedures. Prepares patients as required. Capable of anticipating both provider and patient needs

  • Capable of sterilizing instruments, using proper sterilization procedures and equipment (e.g. autoclave)

  • Adheres to practice policies and procedures

  • Maintains current knowledge of health care issues, standards of practice, and CPT/ICD-10 codes

  • Conducts triage calls in EPIC using the assigned triage training provided. RN is expected to triage all specialties patients if need be

  • Input orders that are non-patient specific and within their scope of practice accompanied with the providers co-signature

  • Assist nurse manager with nursing competencies, in-services, and education for staff

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered RN. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with electronic medical records. Epic experience preferred.

1 year or greater of directly related experience preferred.

Familiarity with medical office procedures and standards of medical care.

Work Days:

M-F 830am - 5pm with potential for evenings and weekends in the future

G7: $27.00 - $40.80
