SUNY Upstate Medical University Breast Ultrasound Technologist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Ultrasound Technologist will perform routine diagnostic breast ultrasound imaging. Assists with interventional breast procedures at the direction of the interpreting Radiologist. Participates in training and direction of other employees/students with knowledge of departmental protocols and responsibilities. Identifies and addresses individual patient requirements relative to their emotional, physical or age-related needs pertaining to their imaging. Willing to perform other necessary duties as requested.

Position duties and expectations:

  • Demonstrates supportive and understanding behavior when in contact with patients and team members.

  • Effectively and accurately relays findings with interpreting radiologist in order to assist in final diagnosis/recommendations.

  • Knowledge of routine and complex breast ultrasound procedures including biopsies and of all ultrasound equipment systems and related accessories.

  • Understanding of patient positioning, machines controls and anatomical factors and how they relate to/affect image quality in order to produce optimal quality ultrasound images.

  • Ability to review prior breast/radiology images and/or reports and correlate relevant findings on current study and Adheres to ACR breast ultrasound standards in regards to labelling and measurements.

  • Recognizes the significance of all visualized structures and identifies and differentiates artifacts from normal and pathologic processes and documents findings relevant to diagnosis and Ensures appropriate documentation where necessary, i.e. requisition, PACS memo, etc.

  • Identifies patients and follows time-out procedure per established department guidelines and Adheres to infection control policy.

  • Knowledge of department information and image storage systems including PACS, EPIC/Radiant.

    Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an approved US department of Education Ultrasound/Imaging program, or equivalent on the job training. RDMS certified in Breast required and Abdomen or OB/GYN with one year of experience required. Current CPR-BLS certification required by time of appointment.

*New graduates who are not currently RDMS certified in Breast, OB/GYN or Abdomen will be required to become certified within 1 year of appointment. Candidates with 1 year or more ultrasound sonographer experience will be considered for appointment to a higher level at a commensurate salary.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S degree and experience in breast ultrasound and breast ultrasound biopsy procedures preferred.

Work Days:

20 hrs/week Monday-Friday; Specific hours to be determined. May be required to work overtime based on departmental needs.
