Structural Engineering - Bridge Design

Position Summary: Applies standard AASHTO and NYSDOT inspection procedures to in service bridges for structural quality, general safety, hydraulic sufficiency, and state of deterioration. U.S. Residency Required.

Compensation is $35.00-$45.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Performs routine tests on timber, concrete, and steel
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Makes field notes and computations

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program or an equivalent degree acceptable to the Department, OR
• Possess an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent Associate Degree determined to be acceptable by the Department, and 1 years of bridge experience in design, construction, inspection or other bridge related work, OR
• Have at least three (3) years of bridge experience in design, construction, inspection, or other bridge related work

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
