How you will create an impact

Leading our Major Accounts team, you will be responsible for managing a team of highly experienced and skilled underwriters who manage our portfolio of most complex risks. In conjunction with the Head of Casualty, Australia you will be the face of AIG for our largest Casualty clients. This role combines leadership, technical expertise, and relationship management at a high level of competency and would be well suited to an energetic, experienced leader with great communication skills.

Key accountabilities will include, but not limited to:

  • This is a key leadership role in our Casualty team in which you will take ownership for achieving goals and outcomes. You will be tasked with managing colleagues and overseeing a range of programs and processes, in addition to complex underwriting.

  • Ability to understand financial metrics to actively manage and report key Business Drivers for the Major Accounts portfolio to other senior country, regional, and international product leaders.

  • Ability to drive the AIG value proposition for key industry segments across the market that fit within our underwriting appetite, business rules and guidelines by playing a key role in new business development, attending broker events, and building new relationships.

  • Managing your own small portfolio of complex risks, whilst overseeing and supporting team members to underwrite risks across a wide range of industry sectors from Manufacturers, Property Owners, and Retailers to highly complex Power, Construction, and Oil & Gas risks.

  • You will thrive by successfully balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and making sound decisions using data, analytics, experience, judgement, and a balanced risk mind-set. It will be essential to build effective relationships with brokers and clients delivering a high standard of customer service as an example for your team to follow.

  • People management is a key aspect of the role – you will promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and learning, while mentoring and developing colleagues through effective leadership, role modelling and training programs. You will aim to facilitate personal growth and career development in support of succession planning.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • A high degree of business acumen developed and cultivated over your years of experience in Insurance.

  • Proven leadership experience in the Casualty product line, and ability to demonstrate a successful record in managing and growing a profitable portfolio of risks.

  • Deep technical underwriting expertise within the Major Accounts segment, specifically relating to General & Products Liability, Umbrella and Excess Liability

  • Proven people management skills and a record of developing colleagues and team members, as well as contributing to the broader company group, through collaboration and sharing insight.

  • The ability to analyse financial statements from both a portfolio management and underwriting perspective.

  • Strong communication, networking and relationship building skills. Your ability to develop and maintain senior executive relationships will be a cornerstone to success.

  • Good organizational, presentation, and time management skills.

  • Customer and sales orientated behaviors: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.
