We are seeking reliable and motivated seasonal drivers to join our team during our busy season!

Voluntary Action Center is looking for two seasonal vehicle operators to work for our Sycamore transportation program that provides paratransit services to clients we serve in our community. As a Paratransit Driver, you will provide safe, courteous, and timely transportation, ensuring that passengers reach their destinations comfortably and on schedule.

This is a seasonal position with part-time variable hours. Seasonal Vehicle Operators are assigned routes that run Mid-August through Mid-December and Mid-January through Mid-May. This is a great opportunity to earn extra money while performing a personally rewarding service to your community.

DUTIES

  • Safely operate paratransit vehicles obeying all traffic laws, observing safety regulations, maintaining a safe driving record, and exercising diligent care in all activities relative to agency transportation programs.
  • Operates agency vehicles and equipment under varied environmental conditions at places designated by the Operations Manager and/or dispatcher.
  • Report to and be directly responsible to the dispatcher for vehicle and passenger movements.
  • Assist and care for passengers and their possessions boarding, aboard, and alighting from agency vehicles.
  • Collect and be responsible for fares aboard vehicles.
  • Record trips, mileage, fuel, hours worked, and other daily log information required by management.
  • VAC operators should have the physical ability to assist riders to and from the vehicle, if needed.
  • Be able to properly secure passengers, including those passengers with assistive devices such as various mobility device restraints.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip safety inspections, as well as monitor bus maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record; CDL a plus but not required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Previous experience in community or public transportation is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of ADA guidelines and best practices for transporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient demeanor.
  • Ability to handle physical tasks, such as assisting passengers and securing mobility devices.
  • Reliable and punctual with the flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and DOT physical exam is required.
  • Physical demands to this position that include sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling (approximately 50 lbs.), lifting (approximately 30 lbs.).
