East Georgia State College Full-time Financial Aid Counselor in Swainsboro, Georgia

JOB SUMMARY

This position performs duties in support of the colleges financial aid processes. The individual is charged with student contact, counseling, processing and awarding aid to lead to the success of our students. This position may also require clerical duties for the financial aid office.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • First point of contact for the financial aid office
  • Perform outreach to current and prospective students
  • Counsel students and parents in regard to financial aid
  • Represents financial aid at orientations and open house
  • Responds to emails and voicemails
  • Reviews student applications, determines eligibility, and makes financial aid awards
  • Complete file verification
  • Processes and award loan application
  • Process revision requests
  • Assist with HOPE processing and reconciliation.
  • Monitoring and Updating Undisbursed Aid
  • Retrieve, Process and Update Next Gen Documents
  • Coordinate Scholarship Awards with granting depts/agencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies and procedures related to student financial aid.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of program eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Student Affairs - Financial Aid/ Assistant Director

assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include the East Georgia State College Employee Handbook, state and federal regulations, the Higher Education Opportunity Act, The Official Code of Georgia, Institutional Catalog, Student Affairs policies, and Board of Regents policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in the application

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

Frequent regulation changes along with the diverse backgrounds and situations presented by applicants contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to provide customer service support for East Georgia State College. Success in this position contributes to the efficient delivery of services to EGSC customers.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, students, parents, high school counselors, and members of the general public.

Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence people.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.

The work is typically performed in an office.
