Mercedes Benz Research Development North America Electrified Powertrain Software Development & Calibration Engineer (CIPOA) in Sunnyvale, Michigan

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America has the following position available in Farmington Hills, MI:

Electrified Powertrain Software Development & Calibration Engineer (CIPOA): Perform automotive software analysis, optimization, and validations. Review existing software to create system-level diagrams. Identify and propose new software features, create feature requirements, request prototype software, and validate new features using Hardware in Loop (HIL), Software in Loop (SIL), and vehicle test environments. Request and plan release roll-out to all relevant vehicle platforms. Create requirements to document existing control functions per project needs. Perform function ownership and calibration. Be the contact person and owner of assigned software functions. Calibrate CPC on-board diagnostic (OBD) coordination functions to meet requirements. Clarify issues with internal customers. Identify and report function deficiency, following up through resolution. Submit calibration changes and document the changes following the release process. Conduct release testing. Align testing tasks with vehiclee software release planning. Identify testing needs, define testing goals, create test cases, collect and analyze test data, and document testing results. Provide release recommendation management. Conduct issue resolution. Receive and own internal or customer reported issues. Decide and schedule testing environments (e.g. SIL, HIL, Dynamometer, Vehicle, etc.) to reproduce the issue. Identify the root cause, propose algorithm and/ or calibration fixes, and validate and document the resolution. Request and plan software releases for all affected vehicle platforms. Provide diagnostic software tool development support. Support development and implementation of new powertrain diagnostic software tools. Provide troubleshooting assistance during phase-in of new diagnostic tools.

Telecommuting is permitted up to three (3) days out of the week.

Minimum Requirements: Master of Science or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field, plus one (1) year of experience in job offered, or in a related occupation.

Special Requirements: Education or experience must include:  

  1. Embedded microcontroller software development, testing and/or calibration.
  2. Hand-on testing experience in SiL, HiL, and/or vehicle.
  3. In-vehicle communication system, including CAN/ LIN/ Flex Ray/ Ethernet protocol.
  4. Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, automotive powertrain, internal combustion engines.
  5. MATLAB /Simulink /Stateflow.
  6. Using control development and calibration tools including Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, and ETAS INCA.
  7. Calibrating diagnostic error management and generic scan tool output.
  8. Analyzing IUMPR data.
