Primary Function
Manage the project-based execution of live events, ensuring the seamless integration of all technical and creative elements. This role requires advanced technical expertise in live video production, strong leadership abilities, and the capacity to make quick decisions under pressure. The Technical Director will collaborate closely with producers, technical teams, and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality, error-free live productions.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
Range: $62/hr. - $65/hr.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage all technical aspects of live video production, ensuring seamless integration of video, audio, graphics, and lighting
Act as the primary point of contact during live events, coordinating between producers, show callers, and technical teams
Develop and execute the Run of Show (ROS), detailing technical requirements, workflows, and timelines
Collaborate with producers and media technicians to identify event-specific requirements
Allocate and manage technical resources for each live event, including equipment, crew, and technical rehearsals
Ensure all broadcast switching equipment, including video switchers, graphics systems, and streaming encoders, are functional and ready for live events
Conduct regular technical rehearsals to troubleshoot potential issues and establish a quality assurance checklist
Make real-time technical decisions to address unforeseen challenges during live broadcasts
Ensure technical workflows align with event objectives while maintaining high-quality standards
Lead and mentor the technical production team, ensuring smooth collaboration between different departments and fostering a culture of operational excellence
Provide feedback on technical performances and suggest improvements

Skills & Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of video switching equipment and software such as Grass Valley switchers, Ross Xpression, Dreamcatcher, and associated workflows
Proficiency in live video production, including experience with encoding, streaming, and multi-camera setups
Understanding of audio, graphics, and lighting technologies as they relate to live video production
Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide technical teams during high-pressure situations.
Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with producers, media technicians, and stakeholders
Ability to think quickly and provide solutions under pressure during live events
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
Expertise in creating and managing Run of Show (ROS) documents and workflows
Strong project management skills with a focus on technical setup, rehearsals, and event execution
Proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in high-pressure environments
Strong collaborative skills, with experience working closely with cross-functional teams, including technical producers, broadcast engineers, and account managers
Ability to facilitate effective teamwork and maintain positive working relationships with various stakeholders involved in live streaming projects
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Broadcast Engineering, Media Production) or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of experience in live video and/or television production, including technical direction and event management
Proven track record of successfully directing live events with large audiences in high-pressure environments.
Experience with live streaming platforms and technologies, including experience at TV stations or streaming video networks
Advanced knowledge of Shoflo and other live production planning software
