Primary Function
We are seeking a reliable and versatile Live Stream Engineer to join our team. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and calm guidance, ensuring seamless execution of live streaming events. By working to enhance the online viewing experience, the Engineer will guide broadcasters on optimizing live stream workflows, implementing best practices, and maximizing audience engagement strategies. This role is essential for delivering high-quality, engaging live content that exceeds audience expectations, from initial planning through final production.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
Range: $110k - $120k
Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with company top broadcasters to achieve advanced creative and content visions for their streaming experiences on company live platform
Help define viewer experience and streaming distribution requirements to bring broadcaster streams to platform
Manage aggressive timelines to ensure satisfactory testing, staging, and redundancy for partners prior to broadcast
Configure and operate live streaming hardware and software, including cameras, encoders, switchers, and streaming platforms (e.g., YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Live)
Coordinate with event organizers, presenters, and production teams to ensure all technical requirements are met before and during the live event
Monitor broadcaster live streams and work with internal engineering teams to ensure 100% up-time; set up streaming software and platforms to ensure smooth broadcast delivery
Conduct pre-event technical tests to troubleshoot and optimize settings for video and audio quality
Educate, inform, and present what streaming is possible to our broadcaster partners worldwide
Advise on the setup, testing, and management of live video encodes remotely
Author bespoke workflow & streaming requirements documentation for sophisticated streaming designs; Understanding and picking apart audio and video workflow and standards for troubleshooting audio-visual systems
Manage internal CRM/database for team collaboration
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in live streaming and content production
Recommend and implement new tools, platforms, and techniques to enhance the quality and reach of live broadcasts
Assist with project and workflow documentation and special projects
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Excellent problem-solving abilities, especially under the pressure of a live broadcast environment
Ability to manage multiple aspects of a live event simultaneously, from technical setup to creative direction
An overall understanding of the live program production process is necessary and a strong sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution is critical
Familiarity with network protocols and IT infrastructure related to live streaming
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams
Good writing and engineering documentation skills
Demonstrated ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines in a live environment, work independently and manage simultaneous streams and encodes.
Network IP protocol knowledge including http, rtmp, rtmps; Proficient with SRT, Zixi, MPEG-TS, HEVC
Successful user experience design, and stream portal construction
Evidence of implementation of interactive stream delivery to multiple devices and platforms
Experience designing and creating streaming experiences and interfaces
Evidence of implementation of interactive stream delivery to multiple devices and platforms
In-depth, hands-on knowledge of audio and video production tools such as cameras, mixers, encoders, monitors, editing systems, etc. and ability to correctly set up and diagnose problems with such equipment
Ability to consult with manufacturers and integrators to install, test and recalibrate new and newly repaired gear
Ability to read and notate on high-level schematics, signal flow diagrams and construction drawings
Some level of audio, video, control, and network cable fabrication (and others); Cable pulling and rack fabrication
Candidate must have a commitment to excellence in streaming media
Demonstrated ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines in a live environment, work independently and manage simultaneous streams and encodes.
Education & Experience
5+ years’ experience in live streaming, production, and events, within a large enterprise
Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, IT, Broadcast Engineering, Film, or a related field is preferred
Certifications include CBNT, CTS, and similar are preferred
