Meta Hardware Intern, Thermal Engineering (BS/Masters) in Sunnyvale, California

Summary:

At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Thermal Design Engineering Intern, you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses and Wearables, or New Technology Initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong heat-transfer fundamentals, is familiar with CFD theory with some fluency in tools, experienced in developing thermal/analytical models from first-principles, and testing. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Required Skills:

Hardware Intern, Thermal Engineering (BS/Masters) Responsibilities:

  1. Develop physics-based thermal models using programming languages such as MatLAB, Python, or Julia.

  2. Develop part and sub-system thermal models using CFD and CAD tools.

  3. Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers.

  4. Support sub-system and system-level thermal verification through prototype testing.

  5. Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  2. Experience in modeling using CAD and CFD tools.

  3. Experience in running thermal tests using thermocouples.

  4. Experience in some programming with a scripting language such as MatLab, Python, or Julia, to support development of models and automation tools.

  5. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  1. Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  2. Experience developing analytical, physics-based thermal models.

  3. Familiar with control theory.

  4. Experienced in developing physical prototypes of consumer-electronics devices.

  5. Familiar with thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor-chambers, and fans.

  6. Intent to return to the degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

Public Compensation:

$6,688/month to $11,134/month + benefits
