Meta Engineering Director, ML Automation and Productionisation in Sunnyvale, California

At varying times this will involve creating a vision, establishing strategic roadmaps, and ensuring the highest level of technical execution quality.ML Automation and Productionisation team helps ML engineers ideate, evaluate, and launch ML changes to production in an efficient, expedient, and reliable manner. With several hundred ML engineers working on hundreds of critical ML models, the challenges and potential for impact are very exciting! There are multiple problems to solve ranging from ensuring quality of models through the lifecycle, ability to merge and measure combined effects of changes, ensure that planned business impact is realized, make tradeoffs across competing needs such as compute resources, model quality, latency etc.As such we solve these problems by creating a broad spectrum of capabilities. These include capabilities such as automation, ML lineage, flexible-orchestration, fault tolerant ML training, effective merge selection from competing ML proposals, model evaluation services, offline evaluations, auto-ML, and launching necessary experiments. In this particular role, you will help define and implement a next-gen ML productionisation platform impacting all of Meta monetization initiatives that serves billions of daily users, millions of advertisers, and covers most of monetization ML-based revenue efforts. You will be responsible for identifying and prioritizing key state of the art technologies (SOTA) either from the research domain or other industry leading efforts. You will help us design a modern, extensible, and highly reliable ML Productionisation and Operations platform that can demonstrably onboard new ML innovations much faster than the current norm. This is expected to create a step change in the business impact driven by ML innovations as measured by delivered or accelerated advertising revenues. Additionally, the platform will be designed with (ML) users in mind, delivering industry-first developer experience that is rooted in effective tools, ease of use, and collaborative development.You are expected to work with a large number of cross functional teams including data scientists, data engineers, technical program managers, infrastructure teams, and multiple ML teams.

Required Skills:

Engineering Director, ML Automation and Productionisation Responsibilities:

  1. Build, manage and support diverse teams of software engineers, ML engineers, and engineering managers

  2. Provide both technical and organizational leadership

  3. Form cross-functional and cross-discipline partnerships to drive engineering efforts

  4. Establish effective strategies and execute against them

  5. Cultivate a culture of high engineering quality and metrics for decision making

  6. Uphold the principles of respect, integrity, inclusion, innovation

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of technical industry experience

  2. 7+ years of engineering management experience

  3. Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, leading technical organizations, including performance management

Public Compensation:

$264,000/year to $342,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
