Permobil Biomedical Engineer in Sundsvall, Sweden

Permobil, a leading assistive technology manufacturing company, is seeking a dynamic and experienced biomedical engineer to join the Group Research & Development team. This role is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of mobility and independence for individuals who use our products and services.

As a biomedical engineer you will be an integral part of our cross-functional & dynamic team dedicated to advancing user outcomes. Reporting to the Vice President Scientific and Medical Affairs, you will contribute to fundamental and applied research and development projects. You will be playing a crucial role in the enhancement of products across the Permobil portfolio (manual & power wheelchairs, seating and positioning and power assist devices) and the clinical application of these products.

Key responsibilities

  • Mapping of the user verification/validation plan:define in the early stages of the development process and aligned with the user requirement specifications, the user verification/validation plan and user centric performance metrics to facilitate the scoping of future claims of the product.

  • Develop (pre-) clinical research methodology:write protocols for reliable and valid testing (e.g. pressure mapping, motion capturing, EMG) across the full product portfolio (manual and power wheelchairs, power assist devices and seating and positioning), including calibration methodology.

  • Conduct (pre-) clinical research:conduct research involving ISO standards, dummies, able-bodied persons, and individuals using wheelchairs.

  • Verification & validation testing:Work closely with the design engineer teams for design verification and validation throughout the different steps of the product development process to measure and qualify product performance in respect of the predefined market/user requirements.

  • Documentation and presentation:Thoroughly document research activities, data analysis and results to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in biomedical engineering or bachelor's degree with relevant experience.

  • Preferably you have experience in working with medical devices and/or the development of research protocols/methodologies.

  • Experience working within an R&D team/environment, collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.

  • You are strongly proficient in spoken and written English, including technical writing.

  • Ideally, you have some prior knowledge and first experience working in a quality and regulatory-driven environment.
