Retail Accountant, Maternity Cover

Sunderland, 12 Months

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Nike family through a maternity leave covering a key finance team member.

Based in our office just outside of Sunderland and reporting directly to the Nike EMEA WEST Accounting Manager, this Retail specific financial role has the following key responsibilities:

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Taking full responsibility for the accurate completion and maintenance of the financial books and records for the Nike portfolio of Retail stores, to include NikeTown London, In-line stores and Nike Factory Stores.

  • This will include leading and managing the month end accounting close process, preparing monthly retail financial statements, completing balance sheet reconciliations, coordinating the financial elements of new store openings and ensuring accurate books and records are maintained and prepared in accordance with US GAAP.

  • Participate in the completion and submission of timely VAT and Corporation Tax returns

  • Assisting with the retail financial forecast and budgeting process, including liaising with store managers and Nike Financial Planning function.

Internal Controls and Policies & Procedures

  • Implementing, maintaining and continually evolving financial policies, procedures and systems to ensure compliance with internal Nike Corporate policies, SOX compliance and external and statutory reporting requirements.

  • Seeking and identifying efficiencies to the financial Retail operation and driving their implementation.

Communication

  • Working closely with the Nike store managers to identify and communicate financial processes and procedures, identifying and actioning financial issues as encountered. Building strong financial partnerships with the planning department to provide insights and be a key player in the budget and forecasting process. Hosting finance training sessions to non-finance business partners at key times throughout the fiscal year.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with the local controlling team and the local planning team as well as managing our outsourced business partner who have controlling responsibilities and deliverables. Managing relationships across EMEA with controlling, planning, store operations and business departments is required, often with competing priorities.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2/3 years experience within an accounting role and studying towards a CIMA/ ACA/ACCA qualification.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations; possess strong information seeking skills and possess drive and initiative.

  • Be able to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group and network and utilise internal and external resources.

  • Proficient in the use of all PC applications, together with a sound knowledge of Accountancy applications. Ideally experience and knowledge of SAP is preferred and strong working knowledge of excel is required.
