ASRC Federal Holding Company Associate JPSS Payload Engineer in Suitland, Maryland

SUMMARY

ASRC Federal Data Networks Corporation (DNC) is seeking an Associate JPSS Payload Engineer. Within the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) satellite constellation engineering group, reporting to the JPSS Mission Lead Engineer on the Engineering and Mission Operations Support Services V (EMOSS-V) contract, this position working from the Suitland, MD and Greenbelt, MD locations. Our client is responsible for engineering and mission operations support for environment monitoring satellites managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO).

Position requires application of knowledge and skills to wide areas such as: space and ground segment system engineering, orbit control, data processing, real-time on-orbit operations, spacecraft command/control, telemetry procedure development, space systems communications, software test/command script development, training and operations procedure development. Candidate must possess excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor health, safety and performance of the full suite of payloads aboard the JPSS constellation of satellites.

  • Perform real time troubleshooting and analysis during anomalies, including real-time problem identification and resolution, support in case of any in-orbit anomaly and participate in the investigation of ground system anomalies.

  • Propose new or execute improvements to tools that will increase long term reliability, monitoring, and anomaly detection capability.

  • Develop and improve ground system products used to command, control, communicate and monitor the spacecraft and ground system.

  • Support various ground system software testing and verifications.

  • Participate in integration and system testing of NOAA equipment.

  • Participate in reviews and design Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs)

  • Perform training of NOAA operations control center personnel

  • Provision of 24/7 on-call contingency support to real-time operations.

  • Preparation of regular reports and liaison with internal and external personnel.

Requirements :

  • A B.S. degree in Aerospace or other engineering discipline or relevant degree and at least 0-2 years of experience or equivalent.

Highly Desired:

  • Experience developing Python scripts/analysis tools.

  • Internship, course work/projects in satellite command, control and communication are a big plus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work in typical office building during a standard 40-hour week. Hybrid work schedule offered to work from office 3 days per week and work from home 2 days per week. Occasional deadlines or operational conditions require non-standard hours and longer hours.
