WSP USA Associate Geotechnical Engineer in Sudbury, Ontario

We have a new opportunity for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer in training to join our team on a full-time basis based in Sudbury, Ontario. You will join our Mine Waste and Construction Services group. This opportunity As a junior engineer in training, this opportunity will allow you to work with senior and intermediate engineers on geotechnical infrastructure and mine waste projects.

  • Complete geotechnical investigations including test pitting, drilling, and cone penetration tests.

  • Perform construction site reconnaissance, observations, and inspections such as footing inspections, nuclear gauge density testing.

  • Assist with a wide variety of tailings or water embankment dam and waste rock stockpile projects, including field investigations, laboratory testing and interpretation, design and construction, geotechnical analysis, and dam safety inspections and reviews.

  • Complete geotechnical analyses including stability and seepage for embankment dams, waste rock stockpiles, soil retaining structures, and culverts under the direction and supervision of intermediate and senior engineers.

  • Complete soil laboratory testing and analysis

  • Complete daily inspections and contribute to technical reporting under the direction and supervision of intermediate and senior engineers

  • Demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and act as a role model to other staff

  • Maintain a high standard of behavior to uphold WSP's reputation and demonstrate a commitment to our Core Values; and work with and provide support to other members of the group in assisting with other field and office activities as required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering

  • Eligibility to become a licensed professional engineer in Ontario

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

  • Strong interpersonal communication and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel

  • Bilingual written and oral skills in English and French or Spanish are not mandatory but considered an asset
