The Director of Finance – Monroe (DOF) is an important and highly visible position responsible for providing support to all levels of leadership of St. Luke’s Monroe. The DOF will serve as the primary point of contact for financial issues related to St. Luke’s Monroe; and is expected to have a thorough understanding of the drivers that influence St. Luke’s Monroe’s performance as well as have the ability to identify and clearly explain them to management. The DOF will work together with the network accounting department to ensure timely and accurate preparation of the monthly accounting, analysis and financial reporting for St. Luke’s Monroe. The DOF will actively participate in entity specific strategic planning. This position is responsible for the annual operating budget, periodic forecasting, and financial analysis of existing and proposed programs. This DOF may also be involved with various Network wide initiatives that may be outside the boundaries of their assigned entity. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides matrixed supervision to select financially based positions within the entity structure.

Participates in the preparation of the monthly financial statements for St. Luke’s Monroe – this may include preparation or review of journal entries, account analysis, review of statistics, financial statement compilation, and a financial analysis narrative.

Review accuracy of the general ledger and resulting financial statements for St. Luke’s Monroe – this may include review of general ledger analysis and reconciliation.

Perform financial and expense variance analysis of existing and proposed programs and supports entity specific strategic initiatives through analytics and modeling of scenarios

Coordinates with Network Budget & Forecasting department to prepare and develop the annual operating and capital budget for St. Luke’s Monroe – this may include working directly with entity management to prepare an accurate annual budget and coordinating with other Network personnel to ensure that goals are met.

Coordinates with Network Budget & Forecasting department to develop a rolling forecast and flexible budget for St. Luke’s Monroe – this may include a thorough understanding of the business drivers of the entity and an understanding of the Network’s cost accounting system.

Assembles statistics for budget/forecast projections and assumptions by coordinating the collection and analysis of information and recommendations from Entity and Network management.

Monitors approved budgets by producing periodic variance analysis reports and communicating with the appropriate management team.

Periodically, updates the forecast drivers and adjusts them when appropriate to ensure accurate forecasts

Provides education and support to department heads and administrative staff on financial processes, reports and analytics.

Coordinates departmental training and ensures effective communication throughout the entity on finance related issues

Assists is preparation of federal and other information & regulatory returns.

Assists in development of accounting policies and procedures.

Develops process improvements to produce a more accurate and meaningful product yet remain efficient and cost effective.

Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Assist and prepare monthly financial presentations for system committees and boards.

Other related duties as assigned.
