Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Core Laboratory (SL1-3) in Stony Brook, New York
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, aTH Clinical Laboratory Technologist/ Technicianis a valuable member of our team, who provides who provides clinical services to our patient population. Will maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and conducts oneself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist may include but are not limited to the following:
- Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis s in the Department of Laboratories.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance.
- Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer protocols as assigned.
- Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols.
- Perform high complexity coagulation/chemistry testing using both manual and automated methods.
- Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique.
- Assist in implementing and validating new procedures.
- Actively engage in continuing education in order to enhance the department, including a willingness to attend conferences and offsite training whenever possible.
- Interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers and other members of the hospital community.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
- Incumbent will be required to work every other weekend. Pass days and holidays as assigned.
Qualifications
SL-1: NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility with 0-2 years demonstrated relevant laboratory experience.
SL-2: NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility with 2-5 years demonstrated relevant laboratory experience.
SL-3: NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility with a minimum of 6 years of demonstrated relevant laboratory experience.
Generalist with a strong background in Hematology and Chemistry. ASCP Certification. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Biological or Life Sciences. Master's Degree.

- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen*
- Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
