Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One year of full-time experience working with students in an academic setting. Highly proficient professional experience in: word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging and internet applications. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling or related discipline. Experience in academic advising, working with undergraduates. Experience working with an engineering student population and/or knowledge of engineering disciplines. Experience interacting with a diverse student population, including international students. Experience coordinating programs and/or events. Experience teaching student-development courses, facilitating workshops or leading presentations. Brief Description of Duties:
The International Success Advisor provides academic advising to international undergraduates in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) and coordinates efforts that support their academic and personal success. The advisor provides high quality proactive academic advising; develops realistic academic road-maps to graduation with students; helps students navigate the University; refers students to other relevant advising departments; and connects students to appropriate campus support resources. The advisor assists with retention-related tracking, reporting, and outreach to support students toward graduation. This position is an active leader and participant in assisting with the orientation and registration process for international freshmen and transfer students, planning events and activities throughout the year, developing and implementing advising success strategies for international students in academic jeopardy, and building connections with faculty, staff, and student constituents. The successful incumbent will work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. They will have strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Academic Advising: Provide high quality, proactive and timely advising to students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS). Advise and track all international students within the CEAS. Such advising will occur in individual and group settings, and will include regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements and policies/procedures. Interpret University policies and procedures and advise students on: academic deadlines, petitioning for academic exceptions, academic standing, major entry requirements, degree requirements and other academic matters. Develop advising materials and strategies for international student success. Create and implement detailed plans of action for international students considered academically at risk.
  • Program Coordination: Work closely with Visa and Immigration Services to remain properly educated on policies for international students. Coordinate with CEAS Undergraduate Program Coordinators to ensure that students are aware of how visa policies intersect with their degree plans. In consultation with CEAS faculty and staff, complete all international forms and paperwork. Provide instruction for international sections of the CEAS transfer seminar class each semester, comprising approximately 20 students per class. Work with campus partners to identify unique challenges affecting CEAS international students and host workshops, events and activities to help form a community among CEAS international students, as well as integrate them within the larger CEAS community. Work with the Career Center to help prepare international CEAS students for careers both within and outside of the United States. Develop, implement and evaluate opening week activities in January and August for incoming international CEAS students. Meet regularly with stakeholders and provide updates and reports.
  • Orientation and Registration: Coordinate with the Office of Global Affairs to provide training materials for incoming international CEAS students to assist them in preparing for enrollment. Host virtual information sessions and conduct proactive outreach to help incoming international CEAS students (including those participating in the Intensive English Center programs) progress through their pre-registration requirements. Coordinate with the respective departments to complete evaluations of international transfer courses. Implement registration sessions for CEAS incoming international freshmen and transfer students, both one on one and in group settings. This includes, but is not limited to, utilizing a strong command of programmatic requirements to make course recommendations for enrollment and evaluating transfer courses. Some nights and weekends required.
  • Divisional Support: Participate in large-scale CEAS events and traditions, such as CEAS Convocation. Participate in various University programs and services as well as those offered by the CEAS Undergraduate Student Office including campus events and special events, Admissions open houses/receptions and Admitted Students events. Some nights and weekends required.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.Evening and weekend work will be required at times.For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.Resume/CV and cover letter should be included with the online application.
