Tufts Medicine Clinical Nurse Leader, Infusion in Stoneham, Massachusetts

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Leadership duties: Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors. Responsibilities also include long-term strategic planning, determining the policies of the organization, and allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision. A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that supervises para-professional employees. Responsibilities that typically include: Setting day-to-day operational objectives for team, problems faced may be difficult but typically are not complex, and ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers and stakeholders.

Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Leader independently provides direct nursing care to patients and their families in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices. Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse Leader supervises personnel in the department according to policies and procedures.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Massachusetts RN Licensure.

  2. 3 Years of RN Experience with at least 1 year as a charge/lead RN.

  3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

  4. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for the daily nursing assignment of patients on the unit for assigned shift.

  2. Identifies and communicates special staffing needs and/or problems to the Clinical Manager.

  3. Communicates critical patient issues to Clinical Manager and assigns staff appropriately when applicable.

  4. Acts as a clinical resource to nursing staff.

  5. Provides routine patient care and assists in emergency situations.

  6. Encourages economic use of equipment and supplies.

  7. Ensures departments compliance with regulatory standards.

  8. Regularly perceives potential problem situations and intervenes to offset adverse impact.

  9. Collaborates with physician, healthcare team, and the patient/family in decision making and planning of care during hospitalization and in anticipation of discharge.

  10. Maintains professional educational development as related to evidenced-based practice.

  11. Delegates tasks and supervises the activities of other assigned personnel.

  12. Assists nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care and acts as charge nurse.

  13. Guides the professional growth of department staff through precepting and mentoring.

  14. Participates in quality improvement activities.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and turning patients.

  2. Prolonged standing and walking.

  3. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.

  4. Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals.

  5. Exposure of blood-borne pathogens.

  6. Requires fine manual dexterity to lift and maneuver patients.

  7. Requires visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team.

  2. Knowledge of and application of the nursing process.

  3. Possesses strong clinical and theoretical skills.

  4. Demonstrates proactive approach.
