Job Summary:

Consistent with scope of licensure, parameters of the California Nurse Practice Act, and St. Joseph's Medical Center (SJMC) policy and procedure, renders direct and indirect nursing care to the patient populations. In this combined role,, the wound care and shift coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and monitoring of the hospitals Wound Care Program. The Wound Care Coordinator establishes standards of care and clinical competencies to meet patient needs and training to ensure clinical expertise. The Wound Care Coordinator works collaboratively with the medical staff and provides education to patients, caregivers, and staff on wound, ostomy, and continence care. As the shift coordinator, the individual will acts as the on-site Administrative Supervisor in the absence of the Department Directors for the facility. Coordinates staffing for the nursing units utilizing knowledge of staffing patterns, skill mix and acuity This position requires the full understanding & active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Standards of Performance and the Core Values. The Organization's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the direction of the Care management Initiatives. This position rarely requires direct patient care, however requires providing service to one or more age populations including neonates through geriatrics. The specific competencies are found in the "Department / Unit Orientation & Initial Assessment of Competency" checklists for this unit/position, and -by reference - form a part of this job description.


Minimum Requirement:

  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience as wound care nurse

  • Current California RN license

  • Current BLS & ACLS certifications (ACLS may be obtained within 6 months of hire)

  • Current Wound Care Certification (WCC) or Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOCN) - may be obtained within 1 year of hire

  • Will be required to work on rotating weekends and alternate work hours


  • Relief charge nurse experience

  • Management experience in acute care experience, SNF or ECF

  • Prior experience in acute care setting as an Administrative House Supervisor or Wound nurse/coordinator

  • Bachelor's or Master's of Science in Nursing

  • Bilingual
