JOB SPECIFICS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field and four (4) years of business analysis work experience; OR

  • An Associate degree in Information Technology or related field and six (6) years of business analysis work experience; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related work experience that totals eight (8) years of experience in business analysis

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

•Previous paid work experience with CentralSquare Technologies (formerly Tritech), Structured Query Language (SQL), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and criminal justice databases.

•Paid work experience with project management or business analysis tools

•Paid work experience working in public safety or emergency services

•Paid work experience interpreting and applying mandated FCC rules and regulations as well as state and local laws governing the operations of the system to include CJIS Security Policies

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

•Knowledge of Scrum/LEAN or other Quality Improvement Concepts

•Experience identifying policy issues and provide planning direction and recommendations to

policymakers regarding the operation of the law enforcement, fire, and public safety system and

related technologies.

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

HOURS / DAYS: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Circumstances may arise within public safety that require longer or varied hours on occasion.

JOB SUMMARY

The Sheriff's Office Business Analyst, under limited supervision, gathers the requirements to plan, analyze, design, configure, test, train, and implement systems, processes, and applications in a variety of technical areas, documents and analyzes findings, and has responsibility for assigned duties on smaller-scale projects.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide analysis and solution definition:

• Gather user requirements and develop, validate and secure acceptance of business requirements documents;

• Document and evaluate work processes and business re-engineering opportunities;

• Create business process models and information models (user cases, data flow diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams);

• Translate business requirements into functional specifications;

• May research software and hardware products and recommend systems and applications for purchase; and may participate in the creation of technology recommendations.

Provide project strategy support:

• Provide input to the project plan to define the scope, work breakdown, and task assignments;

• Confirm project business requirements and ensure successful completion;

• Help with planning, design, and implementation of new and enhanced applications or systems; and create and execute test plans that ensure the accuracy, integrity, and usability of applications.

Provide ongoing support:

• Troubleshoot issues as needed;

• May provide training to end-users; and

• May provide guidance to other staff members.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work will involve remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time, although the incumbent will need to move about inside the office to access files or equipment from time to time, and may occasionally need to travel to other sites to perform work or interact with other professionals. The ability to operate and interact with computers or other office equipment, via keyboard, mouse, touch screen or other Human Interface Device (HID) is required. The incumbent will be exposed to noise and a regular flow of people around an office environment, assigned to changing priorities and occasionally required to work outside of typical business hours to meet project deadlines, or be available on an on-call basis for special projects or to provide support.
