Senior Engineering Manager - Project Engineering (Onsite)

Become part of an exciting team focused on the development of the software, systems and hardware for US Department of Defense training systems. This team is responsible for platforms ranging from the B-52, E-2D Hawkeye, JSTARS, E-3 AWACS as well as several unnamed programs. In addition to those we’re focused on technologies such as Cyber Security and Live, Virtual, Constructive enablers within the simulation and training environment.

We’re seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of Project Engineers in the development of training platforms focused on new and exciting simulation systems and products. The Senior Engineering Manager role is comprised of two main functions, a technical portion, and a leader portion. In the technical area this role has direct responsibility for leadership and management of the project engineering discipline (scope, budget control) for multiple platforms across the organization. These teams are responsible for the entire product lifecycle is composed of a cross functional team of Systems, Hardware and Software engineers.

The candidate will also be responsible for identifying the necessary staff, facilities and equipment needed for successful execution of projects. Candidates must have strong technical, leadership and organizational skills as well as project management experience. The candidate will be expected to spend a significant portion of their time in a direct technical role. The candidate should show the ability to unleash energy within a team through passion and enthusiasm.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing engineers working in an Agile environment. Versatility and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment while managing competing priorities are critical to success. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to influence as well as lead and will be capable of clearly communicating across organizations as well as to senior leadership. The ideal candidate will be analytical and make data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader eager to mentor junior engineers, share their knowledge with peers, and consistently work to make their team successful.

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Executive Managers, and Program Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace. In addition to communication with those functional areas, the candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to create and leverage powerful networks.

Experience in supporting pursuit activities, including bids and proposals is also desired.

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for success of the team in meeting planned program milestones and activities.

  • Actively participates in team’s technical activities to coach and influence the team.

  • Responsible for adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements, along with planning and budgeting.

  • Assigns technical resources as leaders to pursuits and programs.

  • Actively addresses employee performance and development, both issues and career growth.

  • Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success

  • Responsible for building a team including the on-boarding and assimilation of new hires.

  • This position may require occasional travel both domestically and internationally

  • Responsible for interacting with program management to ensure that scope is managed.

Desired skills/experience:

  • Strong teamwork orientation is a must.

  • Candidate must be well organized and able to communicate effectively with engineering, leadership and customers.

  • Experience leading cross-functional Agile teams to design, develop, deploy, and maintain software solutions

  • Have served in a variety of Agile team roles such as Scrum Master, Product Owner

  • Experience collaborating with other engineers and project management to plan and prioritize development activities on Agile teams

  • Understanding of Earned Value Management and it’s relationship to Agile

  • Understanding of the Collins Aerospace Development Processes

  • Must be able to show experience in leading a team.

  • Expert knowledge of software development and related practices

  • Experience with the full Engineering Development Lifecycle

  • Experience leading software development teams in an Agile environment using Kanban or Scrum methodologies.

  • Must be able to communicate complicated and detailed technical topics to a wide range of audiences

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance or higher is required prior to start date

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
