HORSTMAN

Horstman is a developer of high performance independent suspension systems for both the defense industry and commercial markets. Horstman has a pedigree of developing innovative suspension solutions for both tracked and wheeled vehicles since the 1920's. Horstman is looking for driven, technical engineers, interested in helping Horstman stay at the forefront of suspension technology for the next 100 years.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Horstman Project Engineers have cradle to grave responsibility where they lead complex, multi-phased engineering projects from proposal preparation and initial concept development; through, detailed design, analysis, prototype, and testing; into volume manufacturing and production support.

Projects Engineers responsibilities vary from project to project and from customer to customer. The day to day responsibilities of a project engineer may include leading the preparation of CAD solid models and 2D drawings, FEA analysis for structural integrity & strength, perform calculations for component strength, tolerances and fits, and preparation of complete detailed technical data packages. Project Engineers are responsible for the performance and delivery of a suspension solution that meets the goals of our customers.

P RIMARY FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare detailed concept designs and supporting analysis for program proposals and quotations.

  • Determine performance targets that meet customer goals.

  • Complete technical feasibility and system trade studies.

  • Develop detailed cost estimates and timing plans.

  • Present technical data, program progress, budget and schedule to customers.

  • Communicate next steps to cross functional team of managers, engineers, analysts, and designers.

  • Select parts, components, and/or sub-systems to optimize performance, cost, delivery, and quality to meet application requirements.

  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests as required to develop product.

  • Develop/validate corrective actions as a result of testing to improve product and maintain project schedule.

  • Communicate with prototype and production manufacturing teams.

  • Develop product designs for ease of manufacturing/assembly and interface with Horstman manufacturing and suppliers to resolve and validate manufacturing changes as required.

  • Prepare Technical Data Packages (TDP's) to include: CAD Models, 2D drawings, Bills of Material, Performance Specifications, DFMEA's, DVP&R's, and Assembly/Installation Procedures.

  • Demonstrate and maintain organizational focus on safety, quality, programs, policies and procedures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an engineer managing multiple projects or customers.

  • Knowledge of suspension systems for heavy weight class commercial and/or defense vehicles.

  • Must be energetic, highly motivated, self-starting individual, with a strong capability for self-learning and driven to complete projects.

  • Must be detail-oriented with a high standard for accuracy and thoroughness

  • Good communication skills in spoken and written forms are also required.

  • Must be proficient with MS Office tools particularly Excel, Word, and Power point.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Suspension design experience with military wheeled & tracked vehicles.

  • Experience with high pressure hydraulics, seals, valves, and structures.

  • Stress analysis skills and knowledge of materials, heat treatments, finishes, and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with suspension damping valve mechanisms and the required adjustment and tuning necessary to meet ride and handling objectives.

  • Proficient with Solid Works and/or Pro E CAD systems and FEA tools.

Position Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may require occasional travel (national and international.) While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat, cold, wind, rain and humidity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or smell.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS:
