Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Data and Analytics, Tarleton is seeking a Director of Institutional Analytics to support the university’s continued transformation into a more data-informed institution. This role oversees the development and maintenance of analytics products that support and inform the University’s strategic plans and manages the stakeholder relationships and requirements gathering activities necessary to ensure that analytics products are aligned with institutional needs. All work is done in close partnership with university IT professionals and data scientists to ensure effective and efficient implementation and maintenance of analytics technologies.

The Institutional Data and Analytics office is located at the Stephenville Campus. Work hours are Monday-Friday; 8 AM – 5 PM or as work requirements indicate. This is a hybrid position. Must be able to work remotely at the request of the University.


  • Runs the day-to-day operations of the Institutional Data and Analytics office.

  • Oversees a team of developers and analysts and sets performance standards for each of these roles.

  • Trains End Users on the use of analytical dashboards for strategic decision making.

  • Coordinates with the AVP of Institutional Data and Analytics on budgetary needs for the office.

  • Executes and monitors dashboard development, QA, and deployment.

  • Supports institutional efforts to collect and analyze data to improve business operations, efficiencies, student success, and the Tarleton Forward 2030 strategic plan.

  • Supports business analytics, insights, and model democratization.

  • Monitors the preparation of a variety of complex reports and analytics impacting students, employees, and programs.

  • Serves on various University division, and departmental committees and represents department at various State and National associations.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ten years of related experience in management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Generally supervises.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to a wide variety of people at all levels in an organization.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperative with others.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Information Systems/Science.

  • Demonstrated use of visualization software such as PowerBI, Tableau, Spotfire, or others.

  • Ability to write SQL based reports or other querying language.

  • Experience selecting context-appropriate modeling, analysis, and reporting techniques.

  • Willingness to take a hands-on execution role where required to support University needs and team development.

  • Prior work experience in assessing priorities, responding quickly to changing need and balancing competing responsibilities.

  • Desire to lead, develop, evaluate, and manage performance and activities of staff.

  • Excellent analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and use of sound judgment.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to collaborate with a broad array of school and university leaders.

  • Experience in working with diverse groups to gain consensus, achieve cooperation, and work successfully with personnel from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience with creating, developing, and managing dashboards in Tableau, PowerBI, or similar tools.
