Job Summary

This position entails performance and management of technical tasks in a research laboratory. Duties may include preparation of oceanographic sample material, chemical analysis, purchasing of scientific supplies and equipment, sample collection at sea, data analysis and assistance in laboratory finances.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs chemical analysis for research purposes.

  • Communicates research findings by compiling, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.

  • Maintains inventory of scientific equipment in the laboratory and makes necessary purchases for scientific equipment.

  • Assists students in chemical analyses as needed. Participates in preparation for and/or sample collection for oceanographic fieldwork.

  • Assists in laboratory financial work such as compiling receipts and assessing budgets.

  • Performs other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or geoscience from an accredited college or university and at least 1 year of work experience in a laboratory setting.

Experience with precise weighing and liquid/solid handling at precise quantities.
