Special Olympics Coordinator is responsible for administering, programming, coordinating and full oversight regarding corporate wide implementation of Special Olympics activities and events.This position will work throughout the State of Montana with AWARE Service Lines and community partnerships to support aspiring athletes to take part in year round Special Olympic competitions and events. Duties include ensuring compliance to Special Olympics policy and procedures which include managing all documentation and athlete applications to meet program deadlines for participation as well as coordinating coaches and volunteers, athlete uniforms, transportation, lodging, meals and other associated fees for the AWARE teams.The coordinator will maintain open communication and collaboration with the MT Special Olympics to ensure up to date information and resources are shared with AWARE teams and athletes. This would include Special Olympics programs and healthy lifestyle opportunities, exercise classes and fitness challenges.A current AWARE database of athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers, sports, practice times and locations will be maintained. The Special Olympic Coordinator will support recruitment efforts of coaches and volunteers as well as coordinate training of coaches and volunteers that meet the requirements through Special Olympics and AWARE.Throughout the year, this position will take part in fundraising efforts to include alternative funding sources such as corporate sponsorship, grants and scholarships through Special Olympics and outside agencies.This position will provide ongoing support to athletes and educate on Special Olympics programs and resources available.The Special Olympics Coordinator will carry a caseload of members at a minimum of 10 hours per week to provide TR Interventions in a timely basis following policy and procedures. All duties will be conducted under the guidance of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Director.Duties also include conducting employee orientation and training, attending community and state-wide meetings, and promoting Therapeutic Recreation Services and AWARE Special Olympics internally and externally, as well as development and marketing services. Fundraise and seek sources of funding to support athlete participation in events.Conduct volunteer, coaches and staff orientation and training to take part in Special Olympics.Provide education and resources to AWARE athletes to support their personal goals. Coordinate AWARE’s Special Olympics teams and team practices throughout MontanaPromote Therapeutic Recreation Services and AWARE Special Olympics both internally and externally. Provide TR interventions to assigned caseload in a timely basis following policy and procedures.Requires knowledge of Special Olympics, activity and event programming skills and abilities, staff training and development, knowledge of disabling conditions across the life span, sports and recreation fundamentals, and providing technical assistance using a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures. Also requires good oral and written communication skills and an ability to form relationships with a diverse group of people.BA/BS Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Education, or related field, along with two (2) years of experience providing services such as professional care giving, adult case management, sports/ recreation management, education and/or training. Ability to work in a variety of settings. Applicant with (5) five or more years experience programming and providing services to individuals with a disabling condition in a human health setting may be considered.Communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
