Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC05 / Salary Range: $31,688 - $55,453

This position will report to the Traffic Services Paint Supervisor in Division 10. The worker is at the Intermediate level generalist, serving on the Paint Crew, installing and maintaining centerline pavement markings, edge line pavement markings, stop bars, pedestrian crossing lines, painted arrows, school markings and other type pavement markings. Employee shall be installing and maintaining heat-in-place pavement markings. Employee may be subject to on-call for many types of traffic related emergencies and after hours. Employee shall operate a medium duty truck as well as a variety of hand and power tools.

Qualified applicants must submit an application that CLEARLY reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience working on pavement marker/delineator crew, special marking crew, or other traffic services operation

  • Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Equipment (Paint truck, Pre-line paint machine, asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device)

  • Experience in disassembling, cleaning and repairing spray devices and components parts for pavement marking machines

  • Experience in the installation of traffic control such as detours and lane closures

  • Experience operating a paint machine and maintaining sign equipment

Additional Expectations:

Employee will function under a variety of weather conditions and must have the ability to lift signs and operate truck. Employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform assigned task. Employee shall be able to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Employee shall comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment. Worker shall possess ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of pavement markings and other traffic control devices. Worker shall possess the ability to work under conditions of exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, paint, traffic, and heavy construction. Safety toe shoes required. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT drug testing and Post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Either possession of a current Commercial Driver s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
