Job Description Summary

GE Vernova would like to recruit a Senior Tendering Execution Project Manager to work in our Grid Solutions business from our Stafford office (hybrid).

This opportunity is positioned in the HVDC Operations team (OTR - order to remittance), with involvement in the ITO (inquiry to order) phase depending on the sales backlog.

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Type of project: Turnkey Self-Implement (TKSI), Turnkey with Partner (TKP). Large, complex multi-year or EPC projects.

  • ITO (inquiry to order) phase: integrates the Sales team from the early stage of the opportunity.

  • Participates to the establishment of the Sales strategy: understands and formalizes customer expectations, chooses and explains benefits of our solution for this customer and main differentiators, defines the price strategy.

  • Establishes the project execution plan: contractual scheme with partners, division of work among partners, overall and detailed time schedule, budget for project management team, project risks and opportunities.

  • Impacts the elaboration of the technical offer, commercial offer and contractual offer.

  • Impacts the elaboration of the internal quotation.

  • Collect lessons learned from previous projects.

  • Faces the customer as the future Project Director.

  • Define Org Chart and Mobilisation plan.

Leads the project Execution Strategy plan from the earliest stages of the opportunity identification:

  • Is accountable of the elaboration of all the Project Management Plan components in due time and in line with customer expectations.

Leads and endorses the overall global execution strategy and its consistency:

  • Defines the overall project organisation chart and associated mobilization and workload plans.

  • Ensures consistency between (1) the engineering strategy, participating to the elaboration and validation of the technical offer, mostly from an execution strategy viewpoint, (2) the sourcing strategy, and (3) the civil and erection strategy, including but not limited to the partnering strategy as described further below.

  • Leads the establishment of the Division of Responsibility matrix between GE and the customer.

  • Leads the overall risk assessment and associated mitigation plans and provisions in coordination with the Sales team.

  • Makes sure that the project schedule is aligned with the customer needs, the inputs from all involved internal functions & external stakeholders, and the execution strategy.

  • Leads the overall EHS scheme with the EHS team in charge.

  • Together with the Sales Team, ensures the Execution Plan is at the same time optimized, competitive, and executable at cost and on time.

  • Ensures Return of Experience from past offers and projects is systematically integrated with optimized / de-risked solutions.

In partnership with the Sales team, defines the partnering strategy with specific accountability on the following:

  • Supports the Sales Team setting up the contractual scheme with partners and major subcontractors, together with tax, finance, EHS, and other relevant function experts,

  • Attends the qualification of main subcontractors and consortium partner(s), and contributes to the qualification assessing operational capabilities with support from other functions (engineering, construction, EHS, quality, etc.), and putting in place corresponding mitigation plans, if and as needed

  • Develops the Division Of Responsibility matrix among partners and subs,

  • Accountable for the consistency of integrated schedule with partners, with support from Project Controls.

  • Accountable for obtaining approval of the Execution Strategy during the Approval gate reviews, as per GE governance and Delegation of Authority in place.

Supports the Sales Team to develop the Sales strategy:

Engages in the budget preparation:

  • Accountable for the workload costing, in coordination with the OTR functions.

  • Support the Sales Team reviewing the overall budget, ensuring consistency of the key aggregated amounts, the solidities, the Risk Provision … supporting the elaboration of a competitive and winning price while endorsing it for OTR phase, ensuring there will be no negative margin variation upon project transfer to the project execution teams.

  • Defends the execution strategy in front of the customer, through documentation and meetings, answering to customer explicit and non-explicit needs, and promoting GE through ad hoc positive differentiation.

  • Supports the Sales Team through the approval process of the offer, with specific accountability on approval of the Execution Strategy as mentioned here above, leading the Execution review meeting, getting deeply involved in the Project Review Board meeting(s) when applicable, and leading the on-time implementation of the corresponding follow-up actions.

Supports smooth transition to Project Execution Phase:

  • Prepares and leads the transfer meeting(s) in close coordination with the Sales Team (accountable) and engages all the OTR functions in the knowledge transfer process.

  • Ensures smooth and fast transition to OTR, with no loss of time and no margin slippage upon transfer.

  • Depending on workload, pipeline of offers, project profile & staffing needs, may carry in the execution phase upon project award.

  • In-depth knowledge of project management best practices (from engineering and procurement, up to construction activities), process oriented.

  • Working knowledge of competition / battle cards, and differentiators (technical and commercial) in the market. We need to gain knowledge of the HVDC market and GE.

  • Technical knowledge in electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC is a great advantage.

  • Experience in offshore contracts with civil works is a great advantage.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as and when required.
