The Commercial Aviation team in St. Petersburg FL is seeking a Lead RF Electrical Engineer to act as site RF technical champion for the Navigation (TACAN+) and Surveillance (Aircraft Collision Avoidance & Transponder) products. This role incudes:

Developing new small SWAP RF products targeted for the UAS/UAM and Airborne Avionics markets. Including developing the RF architecture, designing the detailed RF electrical circuits, performing RF analysis and simulations, conducting lab testing. This includes working technical issues to resolution with Systems, Software, Mechanical, Test, Manufacturing and other Electrical engineers through the research, development, qualification, and the deployment to manufacturing. Additional time will be focused on working with the Business Development team to ensure successful pursuits of RF product offerings aligned to our engineer capabilities, as well as mentoring, training, and leading other junior electrical RF engineers.

Essential Functions:

  • Electrical RF Lead for the Hardware technical efforts on a New Product Development Team; working closely with other Engineering disciplines Program Management, External & Internal Customers, Factory Operations and Suppliers.

  • Participate in Innovation SPRINTs and Blue Sky events to capture new ideas, rapid prototype and vet out the new product concepts.

  • Leadership in the detailed design and successful integration of the RF (L-Band) circuits with the Digital and Power Supply circuits.

  • Perform (and peer review) simulations and analysis including RF simulations in any of the following tools: ANSYS HFSS, Keysight ADS, Cadence Microwave Office or Mathworks Matlab/Simulink.

  • Oversight of and responsible for successful integration of PCB Design & Mechanical RF Enclosure Designs, while communicating with suppliers to ensure the design is producible (DFM) and testable (DFT).

  • Lead the RF hardware lab testing with engineering technician support.

  • Participate in Hardware Continuous Improvement efforts to help improve RF design process, plans and standards.

  • Participate in RF related Root Cause Failure Investigations, brainstorm ideas, perform analysis and testing to prove / disprove theories.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering; with 10 or more years of hands on RF R&D experience.

  • Demonstrated experience taking a concept design through development, qualification, and into production.

  • Working knowledge of RF communications and Software Defined Radios.

  • Self-motivated to identify and resolve technical issues; by providing direction and guidance to team members, while utilizing strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Innovative approach to problem solving, willing to try new ideas and approaches.

  • Ability to identify to leadership resource shortages, personnel performance issues, tool needs or other roadblocks for RF electrical team through the development process.

  • Ability to work in a teaming environment and possess good interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Experience with Mentor Graphic's Xpedition design tools.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering

  • Hands on experience developing electronic products for a rapid time to market, including innovation and rapid design methodologies (Agile, SPRINT, TRIZ or equivalent).

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean Engineering or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with manufacturing teams and suppliers in remote locations.

  • Working knowledge of DO-254 Design Assurance Processes.

  • Experience with configuration management tools Teamcenter, ClearCase/ClearQuest (or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory performance standards for 978MHz through 1215MHz L-Band products, especially at 1030MHz and 1090MHz.
