This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies. This position is eligible to telework for up to two days per week.

The position resides in the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Division. The BCA division provides investigative and specialized law enforcement services (i.e., criminal justice training and development, forensic laboratory analysis, criminal histories, investigations) to prevent and solve crimes in partnership with law enforcement, public safety and criminal justice agencies.

The position will provide collaborative support to Victims, Families and Community stakeholders as it relates to violent crimes (Homicides, Shootings, assaults) and other cases the BCA is investigating as the lead agency, so communication lines remain open and affected groups are integrated into the process. The Victim Relations Coordinator will also participate in law enforcement trainings, enhance data collection capabilities and strengthen the MN BCA VCRU’s partnership with supportive services and partner agencies.

This position will be traveling 25% of the time to support victims of violent crimes.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional work experience related to criminal justice and/or crime victim services or youth services.

OR

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited in criminal Justice or closely related field such as family advocacy, youth or juvenile advocacy and two (2) years of professional work experience related to criminal justice and /or crime victim services.

AND

Experience working with criminal justice database systems with the purpose of expedited and accurate communications. Knowledge and understanding of investigative reports and their required processes.

Strategic planning sufficient to guide critical resources and program activity decisions.

Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect and build relationships with community groups and victims of violent crimes.

Ability to work collaboratively to develop strategic directions for programs and processes supported by sound analysis.

Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a Victim Relations Coordinator, Victim Advocate, Victim Witness Coordinator, or Community and Family Advocate and/or Community Outreach with a criminal justice agency.

Experience working with community groups, victims, and families affected by violent crime.

Human relation skills sufficient to understand, develop, motivate, collaborate with, persuade, and lead others.

Experience creating policies and procedures, and correspondence explaining complex subjects in a clear and meaningful way.

Experience with public speaking, training facilitation and community/family engagement with respect to government agencies.

Experience working with the courts systems and legal process.

Familiar with Minnesota state statutes, laws, policies, and procedures with regard to crime victim rights.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
