Job Summary

The Division of Health Equity, Strategy & Innovation is seeking to hire multiple individuals to provide coordination and operations support to the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) COVID-19 community engagement including current contracts. These individuals are responsible for coordinating the planning and execution of vaccination and COVID recovery related events to ensure that MDH standards are upheld, participants are welcomed and have their needs met, and the event runs smoothly. These positions are responsible for supporting MDH’s community partners to align multiple systems, partners, and institutions in addressing barriers to COVID messaging, communications, engagement, and resources. This will include providing direction, guidance, and strategic coordination amongst MDH’s community contractors, local public health, tribal public health, health care organizations, the Governor’s Office, MDH Communications Office, and state government agencies.

Key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Convene partners to coordinate the planning of vaccination, testing, and COVID-19 recovery related events to ensure that MDH standards are upheld, participants are welcomed and have their needs met, and events run smoothly.

  • Provide consultation, guidance, and technical assistance to contractors to plan COVID-19 response activities.

  • In partnership with host organizations, plan for event promotion, participant recruitment, and minimize barriers to community member participation.

  • Facilitate planning and coordination meetings with event partners and contractors.

  • Engage community-based organizations in meaningful two-way communication and collaboration.

  • Provide oversight of operations for all non-clinical functions of MDH-sponsored events.

These positions are temporary and are expected to end on 6/30/2026.

Candidates residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota may have the option to telework; however, telework schedules are based on the unit's operational needs and are at supervisory discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

· Two years or more of experience working in a public health related position in the following areas:

o Facilitating large events, planning, and coordination.

o Lived experience and/or strong working experience with a wide cross-section of focus communities.

· Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

· Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience.

Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed at interview:

  • Strong group facilitation skills, particularly around issues of disability equity, health equity, racial equity, intersectionality, and social justice.

  • Proven track record working to advance health equity for focus communities and the intersections of communities most impacted by health inequities (including but not limited to racial/ethnic minority groups, LGBTQ, disability, or rural communities).

  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of partners, including State of Minnesota staff, non-profit organizationalleadership and staff, and local government officials.

  • Broad knowledge of the health status and health disparities of people living in Minnesota.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in systems-level work to advance equity for communities most impacted by inequities.

· Demonstrated project leadership and management skills.

· Knowledge and understanding of accessibility requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations for businesses and State and local governments.

· Knowledge and understanding of intersectionality and how focus communities intersect (communities of color, American Indians, LGBTQ, disability, and rural communities) to create compounding inequities.

· Knowledge and understanding of historical trauma, othering and belonging, and narrative change work.

· Three years or more of experience working in a public health related position.

Additional Requirements

• This position requires successful completion of a background check.

• This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.

• The successful candidate under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
