Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$114,600.00 - $189,000.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a leader for our Software Development Products team. In this role you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers who support the products and tools leveraged by other engineers at Travelers. This position requires a combination of technical proficiency, effective team management, and a commitment to ensuring the success of thousands of individuals across the company.

The Software Development Products team is responsible for over 70 products and tools including IDEs (Visual Studio, IntelliJ, Eclipse), development frameworks (.NET, JDKs, C++, IBM HATS, IBM IDz), and software productivity tools (BeyondCompare, Fiddler, Winzip). The team evaluates new product requests, prepares and releases product upgrades, manages license renewals, and supports engineers in their usage of the products.

Under general direction, plans and manages the effective use of team resources. Leads a team of engineers to implement and/or maintain assigned technologies and/or projects. May provide input to the design/development process. This job is a manager.

  • Provides human resources management, including coaching, performance management, team development and growth, and workforce planning.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • 5 years of progressive work experience in the technology space preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • Leadership experience preferred.

  • Technical knowledge:

  • Able to demonstrate technical expertise for relevant engineering discipline/s.

  • Has solid working knowledge of capabilities and direction of various technologies.

  • Able to understand market and industry trends within related technical domains.

  • Possesses strong analytical skills in order to effectively influence recommendations and decision-making, assess impacts, compare solutions, problem solve, and achieve business and/or technical objectives.

  • Developing understanding of how assigned technologies fit within broader technical environment.

  • Financial awareness:

  • Works with Director and/or Sr. Director and Dedicated Financial Resource (DFR) to develop a portion of an overall budget subject to review and is responsible for expense control for the units assigned.

  • Able to identify cost-reduction measures through innovation and creative solutions.

  • Able to understand financial impacts of decisions specific to area; developing an enterprise perspective.

  • Planning and project management:

  • Demonstrates ability to identify critical project tasks and establish clear priorities.

What is a Must Have?

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience in the technology space.
