We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Under general supervision, this position precisely and accurately prepares samples for storage and identifies and prepares specimens for various research studies. Ships specimens according to IATA shipping regulations. Operates a variety of computer systems. Monitors and maintains adequate laboratory supplies. Provides excellent customer service to both external and internal customers. Complies with all institutional safety and personnel policies, confidentiality, and good manufacturing practices.
As defined by CLIA, this position is responsible for preanalytical handling of samples for testing.
A. This position performs only (i) those tasks that are authorized by the CLIA laboratory director and (ii) performs only those tasks that require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
B. When performing tasks this position must—
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing and maintaining records
Maintains accurate records in a timely manner according to established policies;
Complies with all established policies and procedures including research protocols, safety practices, confidentiality policies, and personnel practices; completes all tasks as assigned;
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications;
C. Promote and contribute to a culture of safety through compliance with all safety SOP’s to include wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) I.e. safety goggles, gloves, lab coats and proper shoes. Promptly report all safety violation observations and/or safety concerns to the Donor Testing leadership team.
Customer Experience: Understands and delivers on customer needs. Utilizes service recovery responses when appropriate. Monitors and addresses customer complaints related to the quality systemsTechnical Operations
Prepares samples for storage and disposes of samples past their retention date.
Retrieves samples for additional testing if needed.
Retrieves samples for research as defined in the protocol and sends with the appropriate documentation.
Assists Physician Services with research related sample procurement and shipping.
Ships samples according to current IATA regulations.
Restocking lab consumables.
Centrifuge and sort samples.
File paperwork appropriately.
Recognizes and reports problems encountered during performance of job tasks including problems with shipments and sample unsuitability.
Complies with all established policies and procedures including reporting protocols, safety practices, and donor and patient confidentiality policies, personnel practices and promotes teamwork and communication both internally and externally.
Assures a clean and orderly work area including maintenance of reagents, supplies and stored samples.

High school diploma. At least 6 months prior work experience
Must possess attention to detail, accurate in transcription of numbers, good written and oral communication skills, and computer skills, ability to work in a team environment or independently, good decision making skills, ability to work irregular hours or overtime as dictated by departmental needs.
