This position provides accounting and central services work for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Finance & Budget Division through the application of independent decision making and professional judgment in all assigned areas. The position is responsible for coordinating of mini-pool usage, processing and reconciling incoming checks, reconciling and recharging monthly mailroom invoices, sorting and delivering mail, packages and supplies daily, processing outgoing mail and packages, and creating agency purchase orders.

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Knowledge of basic accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts, and purchase orders, and to compile and process records.

Communication and customer service skills sufficient to write, read, and speak effectively with suppliers, internal customers, co-workers, and supervisors including ability to explain policies and procedures to others in a clear and positive manner.

Data entry sufficient to enter text and numbers into spreadsheets, databases, computer systems and applications to maintain accurate, up-to-date account information.

Math skills sufficient to compute totals, averages and percentages of numerical data to check or reconcile data.

Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in a mailroom.

Typing skills of net 45 wpm or better and ten key speed above 8,000 KPH (Keystrokes per Hour) with at least 98% accuracy (measured on a 3 or more-minute typing test).

Office equipment experience, specifically using a laminator, folding machine and paper cutter. Microsoft Outlook experience.

Ability to review, analyze, and provide solutions to accounting problems.

Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize workload, work independently, and meet statutory and Legislative Audit requirements related to the position.

Experience with writing procedures and reference guides.

Physical Requirements

Standing and walking at a fast pace for long periods of time.

Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
