This position exists to provide supervision to skilled plant maintenance engineers in the state-owned buildings maintained by the Department of Administration on the State Capitol Complex in St. Paul, MN.
This is one of two Assistant Chief Engineer positions providing daily supervision to teams of licensed plant maintenance engineers. Engineers are responsible for boiler maintenance and operation and operating the chilled water plant distribution systems. Engineers provide consistent quality services, clean, safe, environmentally sound buildings and operation for all clientele and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure
Successful applicants must minimally possess one of the following licenses or license combination.
Chief A Engineer
Chief B Engineer
Chief C Engineer and First Class B Engineer
A valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Supervisory or lead work experience providing verbal and written work instructions and directing and evaluating the work of others.
Knowledge of operational issues related to diverse commercial buildings in a large complex, including Fire Protection and monitoring, electrical, mechanical and automated systems.
Knowledge of construction management principles and practices, from conception through design, construction, and project completion.
Ability to maintain and operate a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment
Customer services skills to tactfully interact with the public, employees, and building tenants, vendors, customers in a professional manner.
Communication skills sufficient to mobilize action to achieve organizational goals, to coach and advise other program staff, to speak to individuals and groups to resolve differences of opinion.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience contributing to the operation and maintenance program of a large building complex including multiple buildings.
Experience working in a highly unionized environment.
Experience with Archibus work order management system.
Knowledge of operational issues related to diverse commercial buildings in a large complex, including Fire Protection and monitoring, electrical, mechanical and automated systems.
Writing skills sufficient to organize and write performance reviews and investigation reports.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, personnel lifts and boom trucks; lift and carry heavy loads for short distances; and may be asked to work in confined spaces and outside in all weather conditions.
Additional Requirements
