This role in summary
Whirlpool is looking for a Platform System Engineer to support multiple projects within our Dryer Architecture team in Saint Joseph, MI. This role will be responsible for system engineering and requirements governance for strategic innovation and business growth product development activities. This role also has responsibility for design to production as well as innovation and advanced development activities to support the Global Product Plan. The role will include high levels of cross-functional teaming with non technical team members including, marketing, consumer design and legal teams. As such a candidate must have exceptional team building and communication capabilities.
Your responsibilities will include
Support the Platform System Architect in the development and improvement of architectures and ensure a smooth transition to system integration in either Advanced or Production Projects
Document system-level architecture design capable of delivering cost/quality/performance trade-offs while leveraging the global framework
Assist in the creation, use, and development of conceptual architecture models to document architecture design and capture knowledge for global platform architectures
Assist in the translation of the architecture-level design into configurable BOMs (Bill of Material) that can be used to produce product line variants and EBOMs (Engineering Bill of Material)
Work within the requirement management system to write requirements that are; clear, concise, complete, and feasible
Drive traceability of requirements from VOE (Voice of Engineering) to component level is complete and requirements are fully decomposed
Work with the V&V (Verification & Validation) Strategist to ensure requirements have traceability to V&V methods
Assist in the creation, use, and maintenance of System FMEA(s)
Document architecture trade-offs and decisions
Support the Platform System Architect in transferring tacit knowledge into explicit architecture models
Minimum requirements
Bachelor's Degree
7+ years of experience in product engineering or quality assurance
7+ years of experience with systems engineering, Design Verification Plan ( DVP )/requirements management, trade-off assessment and stakeholder interaction
3+ years of experience participating in a product launch
Preferred skills and experiences
Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics
System Engineering Certification (INCOSE)
OPEX Black Belt Certified
Project leadership role experience
Product Development Experience within a consumer products industry
Analytical and simulation-based design experience
Ability to execute training and mentoring programs
Ability to communicate technical information up and down in the organization
Ability to team well with others in a collaborative environment
Experience in project management
Experience working with a global team
