Position Summary


The Director of Hospital Compliance will assist the Chief Compliance Officer in carrying out the mission and goals of Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) and its Compliance Program. The Director will participate in the oversight and assessment of our program as well as provide guidance, education and mentoring to the OCAS team. The Director will work with the team members and collaborate with the SBUH Director of Internal Audit on the design and implementation of the annual OACS Work Plan. The Director will provide supervision and review reports of team members. The Director will partner with management to provide continual risk assessment and in the development of comprehensive policies and procedures, compliance training, and internal investigations.

Duties of a Director of Hospital Compliance may include but are not limited to:
  • Design, implement and report on programs, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with Federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, manage, conduct, and oversee compliance investigations and audits throughout SBUH, including compiling detailed reports with recommendations to the Chief Compliance Officer and Management.
  • Develop compliance training materials and provide ongoing compliance education and training throughout SBUH and as requested for other areas of Stony Brook Medicine.
  • Provide guidance to Management on compliance issues and inquiries; collaborate with Management for reasonable solutions with process improvements.
  • Assist the Chief Compliance Officer for Stony Brook Medicine to strengthen and enhance SBUH's Compliance Program. Participate in the development and implementation of the annual Compliance Work Plan and SBUH Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned, including management and supervision of the OCAS compliance staff.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Certification in Health Care Compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), or, Graduate Certificate in Health Care Compliance required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in health care compliance.
  • Minimum of 8 years of leadership and/or supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical, financial, and other departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of fulfilling the elements of an effective compliance program.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree or JD preferred.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
  • Coding certification preferred through American Health Information Management Association or the American Academy Professional Coders as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P), Certified Professional Medical Coder (CPC), or Professional Medical Coder Outpatient Hospital (COC).

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen*
  • Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
