Job Summary

St. George’s University School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking problem solver to fill the role of Medical Education Specialist for Curriculum Assessment, Evaluation, and Research, appointed at the level of Instructor/Assistant/ or Associate Professor, in the School of Medicine (dependent on qualifications). The Medical Education Specialist will work closely with the faculty and staff in the Curriculum Evaluation and Assessment division of the Dean’s Office, as well as with Assistant/Associate Deans and administrative staff in the Basic Sciences and Clinical Studies. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Evaluation and Assessment Sciences, the Medical Education Specialist will contribute data and statistical analytics expertise to support to a variety of curricular and evaluation initiatives within the School of Medicine. Current ongoing projects include curriculum mapping, articulation and renewal; student assessment; program and outcome evaluation; student and faculty evaluation; academic and professional development advising; student academic support innovation; instructional development; continuous quality improvement, assurance, and compliance with accreditation standards; psychometrics; data management and data analysis; and medical education research and scholarship.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will be join a dynamic team of administrative faculty and contribute extensively to the diverse operations of the Curriculum Evaluation and Assessment Division of the Dean’s Office in the SOM, including the following:

  • Maintain, manage and analyze student performance, outcomes, and academic program evaluation data for the Curriculum Evaluation and Assessment Division (CEAD) within the Dean’s Office, SOM.

  • Design and administer appropriate statistical analyses for the evaluation of program delivery and instruction, including univariate/multivariate, descriptive and inferential statistics.

  • Conduct complex statistical analyses (descriptive and inferential) of data from multiple sources

  • Utilize programs and tools to mine data, extract and aggregate/ segregate data for analysis, and apply techniques to streamline analytical processes

  • Effectively communicate research data and results through the preparation of complex data sets, documents, and statistical reports, and apply appropriate visualization techniques

  • Contribute to medical education research including conceptual design, problem identification and articulation, research design and methodology, data collection, analysis, and inter­pretation of findings

  • Administer psychometric tests, manage data, and analyze test results

  • Assist with the design and implementation of projects related to continuous quality improvement and assurance; student and faculty evaluation; and curriculum monitoring and development to ensure continuing compliance with accreditation standards

  • Assist with the design and implementation of educational research projects related to assessment and evaluation including defining research questions related to program effectiveness, student success, student support intervention efforts, etc

  • Participate in medical education instruction, faculty development, research, and scholarship.

  • Prepare reports and presentations of data summaries for distribution to various stakeholders (administration, university committees, and accrediting agencies)

  • Collaborate with IT to design effective reports and reporting systems related to evaluation and assessment

Provide technical and analytical support for office administrators, faculty, and staff

  • Contribute to the Post-Graduate Certificate for Medical Education (PGCME) and Statistics components of the SOM courses as relevant.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Evaluation and Assessment

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • MA/MSc or PhD in a related field

  • At least 3 years' experience in higher education in functions related to instructional design, curriculum development, assessment, research, or administration, preferably in medical education.

  • Experienced researcher and analyst with a background in higher education research, data management and statistical analysis, student assessment, curriculum development or administration, preferably in medical education.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and techniques, including univariate/multivariate, descriptive and inferential statistics (e.g., factor and discriminant analysis, modeling, regression analysis)

  • A highly effective communicator, who is analytical and attentive to detail, demonstrates strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize multiple projects; takes initiative and maintains a flexible approach to project management and support.

  • An individual who works well independently and collaboratively with a team of individuals from all levels within the institution, is technically proficient in data analysis and research statistics and possesses proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical packages such as SPSS, Strata and R.

    Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with psychometric testing and with the generation, implementation, and analysis of survey data for academic project/program evaluation.

  • Experience with qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research design

  • Experience conducting institutional or social science research in a post-graduate academic setting

  • A record of research and publication in medical education or a related field.

  • Proficiency with survey generation and analysis tools e.g., Qualtrics or equivalent.

  • Familiarity with Accreditation Processes and Self-Study Reporting.
